오늘은 연중시기 스물다섯번째 주일입니다. 지난 주에는 시편 34편을 살펴 보면서, 자기를 죽이려는 사울을 피해 광야 생활을 전전할 때에, 어려울 때 마다 하나님께 부르짖어 구원을 받고 하나님을 찬양하는 다윗을 보면서, 우리도 어려움을 만났을 때 하나님께 기도하면 하나님께서 구원해 주시고 우리도 하나님의 선하심을 맛보아 알 수 있음을 배웠습니다. 몇주 전에 이스라엘 백성들이 우상 숭배와 죄악 때문에 나라가 망하고 많은 사람들이 포로가 되어 바빌론으로 끌려갔지만, 예언된 70여년이 지나자 신실하신 하나님께서는 그분의 언약을 기억하시고 그들을 다시 예루살렘으로 돌아오게 하셨다는 것을 배웠는데, 오늘 이 시편 107편은 그런 선하시고 인자하신 하나님께 감사와 찬송을 올려드리는 감사 시편입니다. 오늘 함께 시편107편을 공부 하면서, 우리의 삶에도 찾아오는 위험과 고난 가운데에서도 우리가 기도하면 우리를 구원해 주시는 신실하신 하나님을 아는 시간이 되기를 소망합니다.
Today is the 25th Sunday of the Ordinary Time. Last week, through the Psalm 34, we saw that David was saved by God and praised God, after being saved by crying out to God and we learned God will save us when we cry out for help at trouble, based on His goodness. A few weeks ago, we saw that the Israelites were ruined because of idolatry and iniquity, and many were taken captive to Babylon, but after the foretold 70 years passed, the faithful God remembered His covenant and brought them back to Jerusalem. Today, Psalm 107 is a thanksgiving psalm to praise God to such a good and faithful God. Through Psalm 107, I hope we may know how faithful our God is, who saves us whenever we pray in the midst of the sufferings that come in our lives.
- 오늘 함께 보실 시편 107편은 아래와 같이 Chiasm 구조 (키아즘, 즉, A-B-C-D-C’-B’-A’ 형태로 유사한 주제를 대칭으로 배치시켜 가운데 있는 중심 주제를 부각시키는 히브리 문장 구조) 로 되어 있습니다.
A 1-3절 선하시고 인자하신 하나님을 찬양하라는 권면
B 4-9절 광야 가운데 있는 그의 백성을 구하시는 하나님
C 10-16절 흑암 가운데 있는 그의 백성을 구하시는 하나님
D 17-22절 미련한 자가 회개하고 구원을 얻음
C’ 23-32절 깊음 가운데 있는 그의 백성을 구하시는 하나님
B’ 33-42절 광야 가운데 있는 그의 백성을 구하시는 하나님
A’ 43절 지혜의 권면 – 여호와의 인자하심(헤세드)를 깨달으라
그리고 이 키아즘 구조 안에서, 서론 1-3절에서는 동서남북에서 돌아온 속량 받은 백성들에게 여호와의 선하심과 인자하심을 감사하라고 시작한 후, 이어진 B-C-D-C’ 에서는 네가지 환난들 즉, 4-9절 광야에서 주리고 곤비함, 10-16절 죄로 말미암아 흑암과 사망의 쇠사슬에 묶여있음, 17-22절 죄로 말미암아 병에 걸리고 사망에 이름, 그리고 23-32절 광풍과 큰 파도가 이는 깊은 바다 속에서 혼돈을 만났을 때, 여호와께 부르짖으면, 하나님께서 구원해 주시는데, 그때 여호와의 인자하심과 크신 역사를 찬송하라는 권면을 하고 있습니다. 그리고 이어진 B’ 33-42절에서는 광야 모티브를 통해서 땅의 거민들의 죄악으로 말미암아 강과 샘이 광야와 마른 땅으로 변할 때에도 하나님을 의지않는 고관들은 심판을 하시지만 주리고 궁핍한 자 즉 정직하고 겸손한 자는 그 고통에서 건져 주시고 또 그 땅도 회복시켜 주심으로 정직한 자는 기뻐하게 하시고 악한 자는 벌주시는 하나님의 주권적 역사를 노래하고 있습니다. 그리고 마지막 43절에서는 히브리 지혜 전승을 따라, 지혜있는 자는 이러한 여호와 하나님의 인자하심을 깨달아 알라고 권면하며 결론을 맺고 있습니다.
Psalm 107 has a Chiasm structure (a Hebrew literary structure that highlights the central theme in the middle by arranging similar subjects symmetrically in the form of chiasm such as A-B-C-D-C’-B’-A’).
A vv.1-3 The exhortation to praise the good and faithful God
B vv.4-9 God saves his people in the wilderness
C vv.10-16 God saves his people in darkness
D vv.17-22 God saves the fool, when they repent
C’ vv.23-32 God saves his people in the depths
B’ vv.33-42 God saves his people in the wilderness
A’ vv.43 The exhortation to the wise to know the faithfulness of the LORD
Within this chiasmic structure, vv.1-3 thank God for His goodness and faithfulness and exhort the redeemed people from east, west, north and south to praise God. The vv.4-32 of the part of B-C-D-C contain four tribulations; vv.4-9 for hunger and hardship in the wilderness, vv.10-16 for imprisonment in darkness and in iron, vv.17-22 for fatal sickness, and vv.23-32 for chaos in a deep sea with severe storm and waves. Then we can find the similar pattern how God saved His people at troubles, i.e., when they cried out to the LORD, God saved them. And then the psalmist exhorted people to praise the faithfulness of God. And in the following vv.33-42, when the habitants committed sins, God changed rivers and springs into wilderness and dry land, while God punished the high officials who did not rely on God, but God saved the hungry and needy, i.e., the honest and humble so that they sang of God’s sovereign works with joy when God delivered them from suffering and restored the land. And then in the last verse 43, as the Hebrew wisdom tradition, the wise ones were urged to realize and find the faithfulness of the LORD and concluded.
- 오늘 시편 107편을 통해 몇가지 은혜를 나누기를 원하는데, 첫째, 우리 인생의 곤고함에 대한 이해입니다. 이 세상의 모든 종교와 철학이 인생을 고해(苦海), 즉 괴로움의 바다라고 말합니다. 그런데 오늘 시편 107편을 보면, 우리의 곤고함이 사뭇 더 깊은 것 같습니다. 단순히 개인적인 차원의 생노병사의 괴로움 (광야 길에서의 고통과 병과 죽음으로 인한 고통) 뿐 만 아니라, 우리 인생은 흑암의 쇠사슬에 매여 있으며, 파도와 광풍이 이는 깊은 바다, 즉 나라와 나라간의 힘의 소용돌이 속에서 우리 인간이 도저히 이해할 수 없는 하나님의 주권적 통치를 경험하며 이리 저리 흔들리는 가냘픈 존재임을 이야기하고 있습니다. 그렇기에 우리 크리스천들은 살면 살수록 점점 작아지는 자신을 깨닫는 동시에 또 점점 크게 느껴지는 하나님을 경험하고 겸손해지는 것 같습니다.
Through Psalm 107, we want to learn few things. First, we need to understand who we are and how our lives look like. All religions and philosophies in the world say that life is a sea of suffering, i.e., full of sufferings. It seems that the psalmist of Psalm 107 had deeper understanding on this fact. We are not only suffered by the agony of living, aging, sickness and death, but also we are imprisoned in darkness and in iron, due to our sin and also we are mere weak human beings who are shaken back and forth in a deep, stormy, waving sea, i.e., in a vortex of power among nations, under God’s sovereignty which we cannot understand. Therefore it seems that the more we, Christians, live, the more we realize that we are small and God is big and great and we become more and more humble.
- 그러나, 그런 큰 소용돌이 같은 괴로움에 처해 있지만, 우리에게 소망이 있는 것은 우리가 고통 중에 부르짖을 수 있다는 것과 또 그렇게 기도할 때에, 언약을 기억하시고 우리를 모든 환난에서 구원해 주시는 신실하신 (히브리어 헤세드, 개정개역 인자하심으로 번역) 이 우리의 하나님이시라는 사실이 우리들의 큰 위로요 소망이 되기 때문입니다. 그렇기에 비록 죄악으로 얼룩지고 회손된 세상에 살고 있지만, 오히려 하나님의 헤세드 (인자하심, 신실하심) 를 경험하며 우리는 감사와 찬송을 올려 드리는 삶을 살 수 있는 것 같습니다. 그래서, 오늘 시편기자는 마지막 43절에서 여호와의 인자하심을 깨달아 아는 자가 지혜있는 자라고 말하고 있는 지도 모르겠습니다.
However, despite such great whirlwind suffering, we can have hope due to the fact that we can cry out for help to God at troubles, and that our God is faithful (HESED) to remember His covenant and save us from all tribulations. This is our comfort. Therefore, even though we live in this world corrupted by sin, we can live the life of gratitude, giving thanks and praising God’s Hesed (kindness, faithfulness), as the psalmist says that those who realize and know the faithfulness of the LORD are wise.
- 비록 지금 우리가 판데믹이라는 참으로 힘든 시기를 지나고 있습니다만, 오늘 시편기자가 노래한 것처럼, 우리가 고통 중에 있에서 부르짖을 때에 우리를 구원하여 주시는 여호와 하나님의 선하심과 인자하심을 깨달아 아는 우리 모든 어린이들과 가정과 교회가 되기를 소망합니다.
Even though we are going through a very difficult time of pandemic, as the psalmist sang today, I hope all of us get to experience and know the goodness and faithfulness of the LORD who saves us when we cry out in pain.
Activity questions and thought behind
Q1 What if we have to go through the wilderness without water and food? What if we have to sail through the deep sea with storm and gigantic wave? I wonder how you feel?
물과 음식도 없이 광야를 걸어가야 한다면, 깊은 바다로 갔는데 갑자기 광풍이 몰아치고 높은 파도가 일어난다면, 어떤 마음이 들까요?
(이 질문을 통해, 우리 아이들이 시편기자가 말하는 고난에 대해 공감해 보는 시간이 되기를 소망하며, 이러한 훈련을 통해서 우리 아이들의 공감능력이 배양될 수 있기를 소망합니다. 다양한 생각과 의견과 감정과 경험을 표현할 때 공감해 주시면서, 때때로 생각의 이유도 물어 보시면서 아이들과 적극적 경청과 공감의 대화를 나누실 수 있으시기를 소망합니다.)
(Through this question, I hope this will give a time for our children to empathize with the suffering the psalmist speaks of, and through these, we hope that our children’s empathy can be cultivated. We hope that you will be able to have an active listening and empathetic conversation with your children by empathizing with them when expressing their experiences and by sometimes asking the reason for their thoughts.)

So, I hope you could prepare your thanks list, at least three, that you want to thank God since He helped you and bring them in your activity time to share with your friends and teachers.
