오늘은 참 힘들었던 2020년 마지막 주일입니다. 지난 주에는 시편67편을 살펴보면서, 예수님의 초림으로 시작된 하나님 나라가 다시 오실 그 날에 마침내 절정에 이루게 될 것을 소망하며, 주님의 다시 오심을 기다렸고 또 그런 마음으로 크리스마스를 보냈습니다. 이번주에는 신명기 32장 말씀을 통하여, 올 한해를 마무리하면서 우리가 기억해야 할 것이 무엇인지를 함께 고민해 보면서, 하나님께 위엄을 돌리는 시간이 되기를 소망합니다.
Today is the last Sunday of 2020, which was very difficult. Last week, looking at Psalm 67, we wait for His second coming and enjoyed Christmas with the hope of the kingdom of God, which began with the first advent of Jesus and will finally reach its peak on the day when He will come again, This week, through the words of Deuteronomy 32, I hope that it will be a time to give dignity to God as we ponder together what we remember as we conclude this year.
- 신명기에는 여러분들도 잘 아시다시피, 하나님을 불신했던 구세대들이 40년동안 광야에서 다 죽고, 새롭게 일어난 신세대들이 이제 약속의 땅 가나안 땅으로 들어가기 전 요단 건너 모압 땅에서, 모세를 통하여 맺은 시내산 언약을 다시 갱신하여 주신 사건이 (29:1) 모세의 설교 형식을 빌어 기록되어 있습니다. 그렇게 모압에서 언약을 갱신해 주신 하나님께서는, 레위 자손과 장로들에게 약속의 땅에 들어가면, 매 칠년에 한번씩 하나님의 언약의 말씀을 이스라엘 백성들에게 읽어 주라고 하셨습니다. 그러나 이스라엘 백성들이 약속의 땅에 들어가 먹고 배부르면, 하나님을 배반하고, 또 그로 앤해 환난을 당할 것이라고 하시며, 그들을 일깨워 주시기 위해, 모세에게 노래를 지어 이스라엘 백성에게 가르쳐 부르게 하라고 말씀 하셨습니다. 그것이 바로 오늘 32장에 기록된 모세의 노래입니다.
- In Deuteronomy, as you know well, after all the old generations who distrusted God died in the wilderness for 40 years, the incident of renewing the covenant of Mount Sinai through Moses happened in the land of Moab, before they crossed Jordan to enter the Promised Land of Canaan (29:1) and all the renewal of the law is recorded in the form of Moses’ sermons. And after God renewed the covenant in Moab, God told the Levites and elders to read the word of God’s covenant to the Israelites once every seven years when they entered the Promised Land. However, since He knew that they would betray God and suffer tribulations, after the Israelites entered the Promised Land and ate and were full, in order to remind them, God told Moses to write a song and to teach the Israelites. That is the song of Moses recorded in chapter 32.
- 모세가 지은 노래의 내용을 살펴 보면, 1-6 절에서는 하나님은 완전하시고 신실하시며 공의로우시나 이스라엘은 신의를 지키지 못하는 백성임을 상기시켜 주신 후 (God’s justice and Israel’s Disloyalty), 7-14 절에서는 그들에게 하나님께서 출애굽을 시켜 주시고 또 광야길을 인도하셔서 마침내 가나안 땅으로 들어 가게 하시고 또 축복해 주셨던 것을 기억하고 생각하라고 권면하고 있습니다. (The Past: God Blessed Israel in the Exodus), 그리고 15-25 절에서는 이스라엘의 배교와 그에 대한 하나님의 심판에 대해서 설명한 후 (the Lord’s Sentence of judgement as the result of Israel’s Apostasy), 26-35 절에서는 이스라엘의 대적들이 그것을 잘못 이해하여 득의할 것이나, 하나님께서 그들을 심판할 것이며 (The stupidity and corruption of Israel’s enemies and God’s judgement), 마지막으로 36-43 절에서는 하나님께서는 마침내 이스라엘 백성을 회복시켜 주시고 구원해 주실 것 (The vindication of God’s people and deliverance) 을 노래하고 있습니다. 그리고 44-52 절에서는 모세와 여호수아가 이 노래를 이스라엘 백성들에게 가르치기를 마친 후, 가나안 땅에 들어가서 이 노래를 부르면서 하나님의 율법을 지켜 행함으로 하나님의 축복을 받으라고 권면하고 있습니다.
- Looking at the contents of the song of Moses, in verses 1-6, after reminding them that God is perfect, faithful, and just, but Israel is a disloyal people, vv. 7-14 urge them to remember and think that God redeemed them through the exodus and led them through the wilderness to finally let them enter the land of Canaan and bless them. And in verses 15-25, after explaining Israel’s apostasy and God’s proclamation of judgment against it and also in verses 26-35 proclaiming that the enemies of Israel will misunderstand it and win it, but God will judge them, vv. 36-43 sing that God will finally restore and deliver the Israelites. Then in verses 44-52, after Moses and Joshua finished teaching this song to the Israelites, Moses urged them to sing this song after entering the land of Canaan and to receive God’s blessing by keeping God’s law.
- 오늘 2020년 마지막 주일을 보내고, 이제 2021년 새해를 맞이 할 준비를 하면서, 본문을 통해 몇가지 은혜를 받기를 소망합니다. 첫째는 “재물과 부요와 존귀”는 여호와로 말미암는 것처럼 (전 6:2) 여호와 하나님께서는 그의 택하시고 사랑하시는 백성들을 황무지와 광야에서 만나주시고 마치 독수리가 자기의 날개로 품고 업어 기르는 것 같이 그들을 호위하여 보호하시며 눈동자 같이 지켜주시며 (10절), 그들을 약속의 땅으로 인도하여 들이신 후, 모든 기름진 것으로 그들을 배부르게 하시고 또한 그들을 땅의 높은 곳을 타고 다니게 하셨는데, 그럼에도 불구하고, 흠 즉 죄의 본성이 있는 이스라엘 백성들이 어리석고 지혜없는 백성처럼 창조주 하나님, 섭리주 여호와 하나님을 배반하고 또 악을 행하는 우를 범했음을 말하고 있습니다.
- Today, as we spend the last Sunday of 2020 and prepare for the new year of 2021, we would like to learn together through the text. First, as “wealth and riches and honor” comes from the Lord (Ecc. 6:2), the Lord God met his chosen and loved people in the wilderness and as an eagle embraces with its wings and carries them, God guarded and protected them like as the apple of his eyes (v. 10). After he brought them into the Promised Land, He filled them with all the fertile things, and made them ride on the high places of the earth. But, the people of Israel, who have the sinful nature, betrayed God the Creator and the LORD God of the Providence, like a foolish and unwise people, and have committed wickedness.
- 그러나, 살리시기도 죽이시기도 하시며, 상하게 하시기도 하시고 또 낫게도 하시는 만유의 주권자되신 하나님께서는 능하신 손으로 그들을 다시 구원해 주시며 (v.43), 하나님의 손에서 그들을 빼았을 자가 아무도 없다고 하면서 (v.39) 그의 백성들에게 하나님을 즐거워하며 (v.43), 하나님께 위엄을 돌려야 (v.3) 한다고 노래하고 있습니다.
- However, God, who is the Sovereign of all things who raises and kills, hurts and heals, redeemed them with his mighty hand (v.43), saying that nothing could have taken them out of God’s hand (v.39) so that Moses exhorts his people to give dignity to God (v.3) and to rejoice with God (v.43).
- 지난 한 해, 한편으로는 코비드-19으로 말미암아 참으로 어려운 시절을 보내며,, 두려움과 불안으로 떨었지만, 그러나, 돌아 보면, 신실하신 하나님 아버지께서는 우리가 부르짖어 보호를 간구할 때, 그 모든 위험으로부터 우리를 눈동자 같이 지켜 주시고 또 보호하여 주심으로 오늘에 이르게 하셨습니다. 그리고 그런 와중에도 우리를 낮추시고, 우리 자신도, 인간들도, 세상도, 과학도 심지어 의학까지도 허망한 것임을 깨닫게 하여 주셔서, 오직 하나님 한 분 만을 의지하는 겸손한 신앙으로 나아오게 하시며, 우리들의 성품을 연단하시고 인내의 열매를 맺게 하셨습니다. 그리고, 더 나아가 그런 어려운 상황을 통하여 오히려 하나님의 주권과 섭리를 깨닫게 하시며, 하나님의 위대하심을 찬송하게 하셨습니다.
“주권자되신 여호와 하나님 아버지시여! 모든 찬송과 영광과 존귀를 홀로 받으시옵소서!”
- This year, we had a really difficult time, trembling with fear and anxiety due to COVID 19. However, looking back, when we cried out and asked for protection, our faithful Heavenly Father has kept us like apple of the eyes from all the dangers and protected us so that we can be here today. In addition to that, in the midst of those sufferings, He humbled us and made us realize that us, humans, the world, science, and even medicine are in vain so that we have to have a humble faith that relies only on God alone, while shaping us with the fruits of our patience and faith through the discipline. And, furthermore, through such sufferings, He made us realize God’s sovereignty and providence, and made us praise God’s greatness; “O Lord Heavenly Father, the Sovereign! Receive all praise and glory and honor alone!”
- 기도하옵기는, “옛날을 기억하라 역대의 연대를 생각하라 (v.7)”고 권면하시는 오늘 말씀처럼, 우리가 지금 우리가 겪는 판데믹의 교훈을 평생 잊지 않고, 이제 Vision Center 와 함께 새롭게 여실 하나님의 큰 일을 향해, 믿음으로 함께 일어나기를 소망할 때에, 사랑하는 우리 자녀들과 가정들과 교회 위에 하나님의 크신 은혜와 축복이 함께 하시기를 간절히 기도합니다.
- As todays’ words exhort that “Remember the old days, think about the alliances (v.7)”, I pray we will never forget the lessons of the pandemic that we are experiencing now and also that God’s great grace and blessings may be poured out on our beloved children, families, and church and in 2021, we may rise up together with faith toward the hope and vision for the great work of God as our vision center opens.

Q1 According to Deut 31:20-21, God the LORD already knew their minds to betray Him when God led them into the promised land, Canaan, and fed and clothed them, and that they will commit idolatry and wicked sins before God and break the covenant with God, so that God commanded Moses to write a song and them to remember it. But, even with this warning, the Israelites betrayed God with idolatry and wickedness. I wonder how God our LORD feels? 신 31:20-21에서 보면, 전지전능하신 하나님께서는 이스라엘 백성들의 생각을 이미 아셔서, 약속의 땅, 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 가나안 땅으로 그들을 인도하여 들이셔서, 배불리 먹이시고 입히시면, 돌이켜 다른 신들을 섬기며, 언약을 어길 것을 이미 아시고 계셨습니다. 그래서 모세에게 오늘 32장에 나오는 노래를 지어 부르게 하심으로 그들이 하나님의 은혜를 잊지 않도록 하셨습니다. 그런데, 그들은 어리석고 지혜없는 백성처럼 우상 숭배를 하고 하나님 앞에서 계속 악을 행했던 것을 알 수 있습니다. 이런 이스라엘 백성을 보시는 하나님의 마음은 어떠셨을까요?
(이 질문을 통해, 우리 아이들이 이스라엘 백성들의 끊임없는 배신과 우상숭배와 악을 보면서, 하나님 아버지께서 얼마나 아파하시고 눈물 흘리실지 생각해 보는 시간을 가지기를 소망합니다. 다양한 생각과 의견과 감정과 경험을 표현할 때 공감해 주시면서, 때때로 생각의 이유도 물어 보시면서 아이들과 적극적 경청과 공감의 대화를 나누실 수 있으시기를 소망합니다.)
(Through this question, I hope that our children will take the time to reflect on how painful and tearful Heavenly Father will be as we see the Israelites’ constant betrayal, idolatry, and evil. We hope that you will be able to share empathetic dialogue with the children by empathizing with them when expressing them, asking the reason for their thoughts from time to time.)
Q2 Even though God prophesied their betrayal so that God let Moses to write a song to remind them, when they continue to sin before God, how God reacted to them, if you read Deut 32:39-43? I wonder what the attributes of God? 하나님께서는 이스라엘이 죄를 지을 것을 아시고 노래까지 지어 부르며 기억할 것을 말씀하셨는데, 끝까지 하나님께 죄를 짓는 백성들을 어떻게 하셨나요? 오늘 본문 39-43절을 읽어보면서 하나님은 어떤 분이신지 서로가 느끼고 생각하는 바를 나누어 주시면 좋겠습니다.

(Through this question, I hope that our children will realize that God is merciful, gracious, slowed to anger, and He has a lot of kindness and truth. After listening to all the thoughts of the children, I hope that this will be a time to know and meditate on God, as the teacher or family read Exodus 34:6 together. I hope that you will be able to share a conversation of positive listening and empathy with your children by empathizing with them when expressing various thoughts, opinions, feelings and experiences, and sometimes asking the reason for your thoughts.)
Q3 Today is the last Sunday of 2020. We confess that this year was one of the most difficult years in our lives, but in other hands, we thank God for His protection and keeping from the virus, for letting us recognize how small we are and how great our God is, so that I pray that we may remember this memory and walk humbly before God and praise and glorify Him in our lives. 오늘은 2020년 12월 마지막 주일 입니다. 참 어려웠던 한 해를 돌아보고, 마무리 하면서, 지키고 보호해 주신 하나님의 은혜를 감사하면서, 우리가 얼마나 연약한 존재인지를 깨닫고 또 하나님께서는 얼마나 위대하고 크신 존재인지를 알고, 이 시간들을 기억함으로, 늘 겸손하게 하나님의 은혜를 의지하며, 하나님께 영광과 찬송을 올려 드리는 우리 모두가 되시기를 소망합니다.
