영과 진리로 예배하는 예배자를 찾으시는 하나님 아버지께서, 우리의 예배를 통해 올려 드리는 모든 감사와 찬양과 영광을 기쁘게 받으실 줄 믿습니다.
We believe that Heavenly Father, who is looking for worshipers who worship with spirit and truth, will gladly receive all the thanks, praise, and glory that we offer through our worship.
오늘은 2021년 일곱번째 주일입니다. 지난 주에는, 엡 2:1-10 말씀을 통해서, 인간은 영적으로 모두 죽어 있어 스스로를 구원할 수 없는 존재였는데, 하나님께서는 큰 사랑으로 믿음을 통해서 은혜로 말미암아 인간을 살리시고, 일으키시사 마침내 영원한 구원으로 인도하셨기에, 오늘 구원 받은 우리는 감사의 마음으로 선한 일을 행하여 하나님의 크신 사랑과 은혜를 드러내며 살아야 한다고 배웠습니다. 이번 주에는 요나서 4장 말씀을 통해서, 그런 사랑과 은혜의 하나님은 어떤 분이신지를 생각해 보는 시간이 되기를 소망합니다.
Today is the seventh Sunday in 2021. Last week, through Eph 2:1-10, we learned that we have to show the great grace and love of God to the world in which we were made alive with Jesus by grace through faith in Him who earned all the merits for us vicariously, will be raised and be seated with Him in the heavenly kingdom, when we are all dead in transgressions and sins. This week, through Jonah 4, we would like to know who God of that grace and love is.
- 요나 선지자는 기원전 8세기 전후반에 걸쳐 북이스라엘 여로보암 2세때 활동했던 선지자로, 열왕기하 14장 23-29에 보면 여로보암 왕때 북이스라엘의 영토가 회복될 것이라는 예언을 하기도 했는데, 요나서는 이스라엘을 침공하여 항상 괴롭혔던 적국인 앗시리아 제국의 수도인 니느웨에 가서 회개의 복음을 전한 이야기가 쓰여 있습니다.
- The prophet Jonah was the prophet who prophesied in the 8th century BC when Jeroboam II ruled out the Northern Israel. In 2 Kings 14:23-29, he prophesied that the territory of Israel will be restored. In the Book of Jonah, there was written the story that Jonah proclaimed the gospel of repentance to Nineveh, the capitol of the Assyria that habitually invaded and harassed Israel.
- 기원전 1050년 사울이 이스라엘의 왕으로 등극한 후, 다윗과 솔로몬까지 전승기를 구가하던 이스라엘 통일왕국은 솔로몬의 사후 기원전 930년에 솔로몬의 아들 르호보암이 왕이 된 후에, 르호보암의 미숙함으로 인하여, 열 지파를 이끈 여로보암의 북이스라엘과 유다와 밴자민 지파가 함께 한 르호보암의 남유다로 나뉘어 졌다가, 북이스라엘은 기원전 722년 신앗시리아 제국에 망하였고, 남유다는 기원전 586년에 신바빌로니아 제국에 의해 망하여 많은 사람들이 포로가 되어 바벨론으로 끌려가서, 하나님께서 다시 예루살렘으로 돌아오게 하시기 까지 70년 동안 고통을 겪었습니다.
- After Saul became the king of Israel in 1050 BC, the united kingdom of Israel was divided into the Northern Israel in which Jeroboam led ten tribes and Southern Judah in which Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, led two tribes of Judah and Benjamin, after David and Solomon strengthened and expanded its territory and finally the Northern Israel was destroyed and scattered by Neo-Assyria in BC 722 and also the Southern Judah was destroyed by Neo-Babylonia at BC 586 and was taken captive to Babylon to suffer for 70 years until God saved and returned them back to Jerusalem.
- 요나가 활동하던 당시는 BC 8세기 중반경으로, 분열왕국이후 계속 우상숭배와 악을 일삼던 이스라엘 백성들과 리더들에게, 선지자들을 보내 회개를 촉구하셨고 또 discipline 도 하였지만, 그들이 돌이키지 않자, 하나님께서는 잠시나마 여로보암 2세때 이스라엘을 회유하기 위하여 그들의 영토도 회복시켜 주셨지만, 회개하기는 커녕 지속적으로 사회적 불의를 일삼았습니다. 그러자 하나님께서는, 마침내 앗시리아를 통해 북이스라엘을 심판하시기로 작정하시고, 요나 선지자에게 죄악이 관영했던 앗시리아 제국의 수도 니느웨로 가서 회개의 복음을 전하라고 말씀하셨습니다.
- In the mid 8th century BC when Jonah prophesied, the Northern Israel had been committing sins before God, even though God tried to conciliate the Northern Israel to repent by restoring their territory at Jeroboam II, seeing they did not repent their idolatry and wickedness with the disciplines so that God decided to destroy and scatter the Northern Israel by Assyria and commanded to Jonah to proclaim the repentance of Assyrian people in Nineveh, the capital of Neo-Assyria from their wickedness.
- 그러나 선민의식에 젖어 있던 요나는 하나님의 명령을 받았지만, 적국 앗시리아가 회개하여 돌아오는 것이 마음에 들지 않았을 뿐 아니라, 자기의 행동이 앞으로 북이스라엘을 심판하게 될 도구인 앗시리아 제국을 살려내는 민족에 대한 반역 행동으로 생각되어 죽기보다 더 싫었던 바, 결국 스페인 남부 도시인 다시스까지 도망을 가려고 다시스행 배를 탔습니다. 그러다 가는 도중 풍랑을 만나 물고기 뱃속에 까지 들어가는 고난을 거친 후, 하나님께 회개하고 니느웨로 가서 건성으로나마 하나님의 말씀을 전했는데, 300백여년 동안 선지자를 보내고 여러 환난과 회유에도 돌아오지 않았던 이스라엘 백성들과는 달리, 마침 전쟁으로 지쳐 있는데다 국운이 쇠퇴하는 가운데 전염병과 개기일식 현상도 겪었던, 니느웨 백성들과 지도자들은 금식을 선포하며 하나님 앞에서 죄를 회개하며 하나님을 믿었고, 이를 보신 하나님께서는 뜻을 돌이키사 재앙도 내리시지 않으시기로 하셨습니다. 이를 다 지켜 본 요나는 화가 나 자기의 생명을 거두어 가시라며 하나님의 자비하심에 항의하며 니느웨성 밖으로 나가 성읍이 어떻게 되나 지켜보기 위해 초막을 짓고 앉았는데, 이를 안스럽게 보신 하나님께서 박넝쿨을 보내 요나를 햇볕으로부터 가리워 주셨다가, 이튿날 벌레를 보내 박넝쿨을 갉아먹게 한 후 뜨거운 동풍과 햇볓이 내리 쪼이자 더욱 화를 내는 요나에게, “네가 수고도 아니하였고 재배도 아니한 하룻밤에 났다 하룻밤에 말라버린 박넝쿨도 아꼈거든 이 큰 성읍 니느웨에 있는 좌우를 분간 못하는 십이만여명의 사람들과 많은 가축을 내가 어찌 아끼지 않겠느냐?”고 하시며, 하나님께서는 만물의 아버지가 되시며 또한 만물의 주권자가 되심을 요나에게 말씀해 주심으로 요나서가 끝을 맺습니다.
- But, Jonah who had been soaked with the pride of the chosen people, did not obey to God’s commandment since he did not want the repentance of Assyria, enemy of the Israel to be saved and also to become the betrayal to the Israel by blessing Assyria who would destroy them so that he decided to escape from God by getting on the ship to Tartessus of Southern Spain. On his way to Tartessus, after encountering a severe storm in the sea and being suffered with the hardship that go into the stomach of a big fish, he repented and go to proclaim the repentance of Nineveh in dryness. But, Assyrian people and leaders in Nineveh believed God and repented with fasting so that God relented the disaster and did not do it. Even though the Israelites did not repent to return to God, even with several prophets sent and disciples and conciliation, Assyrians repented and returned to God, hearing the proclamation of Jonah, since they had experienced the infectious disease and total solar eclipse just before Jonah. When Jonah saw their repentance, he was so angry to the grace of God to his enemy and went out of the city and sat to the east of the city and made a booth to see what would happen in the city, saying “O LORD, please take my life from me!” So, compassionate God appointed a plant to cover him from sun and Jonah was exceedingly glad because of the plant, but next day when God sent a worm to attack to wither the plant and made a scorching east wind and the sun beat down on Jonah, he was so disappointed and faint, saying, “It is better for me to die than to live.” Then God said, “You pity the plant, for which you did not labor, nor did you make it grow, which came into being in a night and perished in a night. And should not I pity Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also much cattle?” And the story ends.
- 오늘 본문 말씀을 통해서 몇가지 은혜를 나누기 원하는 데, 첫번째 하나님은 크리스천만의 하나님이 아니시고 모든 인간과 동물과 온 세상을 창조하시고 섭리하시는 주권자되신 하나님이심을 우리가 알았으면 좋겠습니다. 비록 하나님께서 창조하신 인간들이 하나님을 배반하여, 제 갈길로 갔지만, 하나님은 여전히 주권자이시자 섭리자로 만유를 다스리시며, 또한 오늘 본문 2절 “주께서는 은혜로우시며 자비로우시며 노하기를 더디하시며 인애가 크시사 뜻을 돌이켜 재앙을 내리지 아니하시는 하나님”이시라고 고백했던 말씀처럼, 하나님께서는 당신이 창조하신 인간들을 사랑하시고 계십니다. 두번째는 두 백성 즉 이스라엘 백성들과 니느웨 백성들에 대한 묵상입니다. 하나님께서 선택하셔서 하나님의 사랑과 은혜를 받아 누림으로 세상의 제사장 역할을 감당해야 할 이스라엘은 선민의식에 빠져 오히려 완악하여져서 우상 숭배와 죄악에 빠져 버렸고, 하나님께서는 선지자들을 보내 회개를 촉구하였으나, 끝까지 돌아오지 않았던 반면에, 이방나라 니느웨 백성들은 요나를 보내셔서 회개하고 하나님을 믿으라는 말씀에 오히려 즉시 반응하여 하나님께 돌아왔던 것을 봅니다. 과연 우리는 어떤 자리에 서 있는지 돌아볼 필요가 있습니다. 구원받은 하나님의 백성이지만, 우리의 마음은 무디어져서 하나님의 말씀에 순종하지 않고 하나님의 은혜를 경히 여김은 없는지 돌아보는 한주가 되었으면 좋겠습니다. 그리고 세번째는 요나에 대해 생각해 보기를 원합니다. 하나님의 사람인 요나는 복음의 통로로 부르심을 받았을진대, 다시스로 가는 배에 탄 사람에게는 오히려 재난의 통로가 되었고, 니느웨 성 사람들에게는 하나님을 믿게 하는 복의 통로가 되었습니다. 우리는 우리 주위의 사람들에게 복의 통로가 되기 보다 오히려 재난의 통로가 되고 있지는 않은지 돌아보면 좋겠습니다. 그리고 성의없이 하나님의 복음을 전했던 요나 그리고 니느웨 백성이 회개하고 돌아왔을 때 기뻐하기 보다 오히려 화를 내었던 요나의 모습을 보면서, 우리가 원수로 행 했을 때에도 끝까지 우리를 사랑하셨던 예수님의 십자가의 사랑을 잊어버린 것은 아닌지 혹은 원수까지도 사랑하라고 하신 주님의 음성을 잊어 버리고 있는 것은 아닌지 한번 생각해 보았으면 좋겠습니다. 그리고 마지막으로는 온 우주와 만물과 모든 사람들의 창조주요 아버지가 되시기에, 모든 사람이 구원에 이르기를 원하시는 (딤전 2:4) 하나님의 마음을 우리가 알고, 또 죽을 수 밖에 없는 우리들에게 긍휼을 베푸사, 우리를 구원해 주신 은혜를 깨달았다면, 우리 모두는 주권자시자 왕되신 하나님을 온 세상에 선포하며, 하나님의 사랑과 은혜를 전하는 일에 순종하는 자가 되어야 될 줄로 믿습니다.
- We would like to learn few things through today’s text: Firstly, I hope you know that God is not only God of Christians but also Creator and Providential Ruler of Sovereignty of all human beings, all living creatures and the universe. Even though human beings betrayed and went away as they wanted, God is Sovereign and reigns all things through His Providential care and loves human beings whom He created, as Today’s Bible verses says. Secondly, we would like to meditate on two kinds of people, I mean, even though the Israelites whom God chose as His nation of priests for the world who experienced the grace and love of God actually became stubborn and fell into the idolatry and sin due to the pride of chosen people, on the other hands, the Assyrians responded immediately and return to God when they heard God’s message of repentance and request for faith through Jonah. We need to think where we stand now. I exhort we may check whether we now obey the word of God and cherish the grace of God or not during this week. Thirdly, we would like to meditate on Jonah, i.e., Jonah, man of God, was called to be a path of blessings to the world, but he acted as the person who brought the people who got on board to Tartessus, rather he became the person who brought the blessings to the people of Nineveh of Assyria. So I hope we could check whether we brought the sufferings to our neighbor instead of becoming the blessings to them. When watching Jonah who did not do his best to proclaim the message of God and was angry after seeing the repentance of people of Nineveh, I hope we need to check whether we have forgotten Jesus in the cross who loved us to the end or we have forgotten the voice of Jesus that we have to love even our enemy. And finally I hope we can proclaim Sovereign God and King and reveal the grace and love of God, if we know that God our Father who is creator of the universe and everything in it and al the human beings and desires all the people will be saved (1 Tim 2:4) and also the grace of God through which we are saved by His mercy to those who deserve the death.
- 기도하옵기는, 이번 한 주 동안, 크신 하나님의 사랑과 은혜를 기억하며, 모든 사람이 구원을 받으며 진리를 아는데 이르기를 원하시는 하나님 아버지의 마음을 알아, 하나님의 주권자 되심과 하나님의 크신 사랑과 은혜를 전하는 우리 KPCM 자녀들과 가족들과 교회가 되기를 기도합니다.
- I pray that His beloved our KPCM children, families and church may share His love and grace, proclaiming Sovereignty of God who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Q1 According to Today’s Bible verses, God commanded to Jonah to declare the gospel of repentance to Nineveh who had been afflicting the Israelites as enemy.
