영과 진리로 예배하는 예배자를 찾으시는 하나님 아버지께서, 우리의 예배를 통해 올려 드리는 모든 감사와 찬양과 영광을 기쁘게 받으실 줄 믿습니다.
We believe that Heavenly Father, who is looking for worshipers who worship with spirit and truth, will gladly receive all the thanks, praise, and glory that we offer through our worship.
지난 주에는, 마태복음 5:27-32 말씀을 통하여, “간음하지 말라”는 제7계명에 대해서 배웠는데, 우리가 우리의 마음과 몸을 거룩하고 정결하게 지킬 뿐 만 아니라, 하나님께서 제정하신 결혼과 독신의 삶을 순결하게 지켜 가야 한다고 배웠습니다. 이번주에는 말3:7-12 말씀을 통하여, 제8계명 “도둑질 하지 말라”에 대해 배워보기를 소망합니다.
Last week, through Mt 5:27-32, we learned about the sixth commandment “Do not commit adultery”, which commands us to keep our body and soul holy and pure and also even our marriage and celibacy which God installed chaste and modest. This week, through Mal 3:7-12, we would like to learn about the eigth commandment “Do not steal.”
- 제8계명은 “도둑질하지 말라”입니다. 이 8계명을 단순히 “도둑질”이라는 행위 한가지를 금하는 문자적 해석과 접근은 이 계명의 의미를 너무 약화시킨다는 생각이 듭니다. 왜냐하면, “도둑질”은 심지어 법으로도 금하는 것이기 때문입니다. 우리는 오늘 하나님께서 왜 이러한 명령을 하셨는지 이 명령에는 어떤 의도와 뜻이 있는지, 그리고 이 계명을 어느 정도 범위까지 지켜야 하는지를 알아 보는 시간이 되기를 소망합니다. 이제까지 배운 두번째 돌판의 계명들을 보면, 제5계명은 권위와 질서, 제6계명은 인간 존엄성의 존중, 제7계명은 몸과 마음을 정결케 함에 대해서 규정하고 있습니다. 오늘 배우는 제8계명은 사람의 소유물에 대해 존중을 말씀하고 있습니다. 즉 소극적으로 다른 사람의 소유물을 도둑질 하지 않아야 할 뿐 만 아니라, 다른 사람의 재산을 존중해 주고 또 그 사람에게 하나님께서 허락하신 분복들을 누릴 수 있도록 우리가 또한 도와 주어야 하는 것을 포함하고 있습니다.
- The eighth commandment is “do not steal”. But, I think if we understand it as just literal prohibition of act of thievery, since even the social law prohibited it. I hope we may understand more deeply why God allowed this commandment and what the spirit of this commandment and the will of God on this commandment is and what extent we have to extend it. If we summarize the commandments of the second stone tablet, we noticed that the fifth commandment is to respect the authority which is given to parents or those who reign us by God, while the sixth for the respect of human dignity, the seventh for keeping our soul and body clean and pure, rather the eighth commandment is regarding the respect of possession, i.e., it means that we should not steal others’ possession passively, but also proactively we have to help others to enjoy their lot which God gave them, by respecting their possession.
- 그래서 칼빈은 이 계명의 목적을 “하나님께서는 불의를 가증스럽게 여기시기 때문에, 우리는 각 사람이 소유한 것을 그 사람에게 돌려야 한다는 것에 있다”고 하면서, “다른 사람의 소유물들을 탐하는 것을 금하고 있으므로, 이 계명은 동시에 각 사람이 자기의 소유들을 지니도록 그들을 신실하게 돕는 일에 힘써야 한다는 명령이기도 하다”고 말하고 있습니다. 그리고 하이델베르그 요리문답 제110문에서는 “하나님께서는 단지 법이 처벌하는 도둑질과 강도짓 만을 금하신 것이 아닙니다. 하나님께 도둑질은 강제로 하거나 합법적인 허울을 가지고 이웃의 물건을 빼앗기 위한 모든 악한 계획과 음모들을 포함합니다. 여기에는 부정확한 저울의 무게, 크기와 양, 부정한 판매, 위조, 폭리, 그리고 하나님께서 금지하신 모든 악한 수단을 포함합니다. 또한 하나님께서는 모든 탐욕과 자신의 은사들을 무분별하게 낭비하는 것을 금하십니다.”고 가르치고 있는 것입니다. 이런 면에서 이 8계명은 10계명 “남의 것을 탐하지 말라”는 말씀과 연결되어 있는데, 10계명에서는 물질 뿐 만 아니라, 삶의 모든 영역에서 앞에서 배운 사랑에 근거를 둔 하나님의 계명에 반하는 모든 탐심을 경계하고 있습니다.
- So, Calvin says that the purpose of this commandment is “since injustice is an abomination to God, we should render to each man what belongs to him [Rom. 13:7]”1 and “to sum up: we are forbidden to pant after the possessions of others, and consequently are commanded to strive faithfully to help every man to keep his own possessions.”[1] And Q&A 110 of the Heidelberg Catechism teaches that “God forbids not only outright theft and robbery, punishable by law. But in God’s sight theft also includes all scheming and swindling in order to get our neighbor’s goods for ourselves, whether by force or means that appear legitimate, such as inaccurate measurements of weight, size, or volume; fraudulent merchandising; counterfeit money; excessive interest; or any other means forbidden by God. In addition God forbids all greed’ and pointless squandering of his gifts.”[2] In this perspective, the eighth commandment is connected to the tenth commandment “do not covet” which not only prohibit to covet others’ possession but also whole area of life.
- 오늘 본문 말 3:7-12 에서는 십일조와 봉헌물을 하나님께 드리지 않는 것을 하나님의 것을 도둑질 하였다고 나무라시는데, 이와 같이 우리가 마땅히 하나님께 돌려 드려야 하는 십일조와 헌물들 그리고 하나님의 영광을 가로채는 모든 것들도 도둑질에 해댱하는 것을 기억하여야 할 줄로 압니다.
- According to today’s Bible verse Mal 3:7-12, we have to remember that even not only not giving tithes and contributions to God and but also intercepting Glory of God is the acts of robbing God’s.
- 오늘 본문 말씀을 통해서 몇가지 은혜를 나누기 원하는 데, 첫번째 우리는 제8계명을 통하여, 하나님께서 각 사람에게 분배해 주신 세상의 제물들을 강제로 혹은 교묘한 방법으로 빼앗는 일이 없도록 하여야 할 뿐 만 아니라, 더 나아가 각 사람들이 하나님의 분복을 누릴 수 있도록 도와주고 또 사회적 시스템을 만들어 나가는 일에 함께 하여야 할 줄로 믿습니다. 그래서 하나님께서는 항상 가난한 사람들과 과부들과 이방 땅에 거주하는 사람들 즉 경제적 약자들을 돌보라고 하셨던 바 이렇게 공평하신 하나님의 뜻을 쫓아 삶으로 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 우리 모두가 되기를 소망합니다. 그리고 마지막으로 이러한 모든 것들이 하나님께로부터 말미암는 것임을 깨달아, 그에 대한 인정과 감사로 드리는 십일조와 헌물들을 마땅히 하나님께 올려 드림으로 하나님의 영광을 가로채는 일이 없도록 하여야 할 줄로 믿습니다.
- Through today’s Bible verses, we would like to learn few things together. Firstly, we have to not only to rob others’ possessions which God shared to them in violence, by malicious deceit, or through cunning means, but also we have to do our best to help them to enjoy God’s blessings and build the social justice system to protect them. Therefore, as God always commanded to take care of the weak in finance, such as the poor, the widows, and the foreigners, we have to be fare and live just to follow the will of God of justice. And also, by recognizing that all the material wealth comes from God, we have to give tithes and contributions to God as our expression of gratitude and not to intercept God’s glory which we have to give God.
- 기도하옵기는, 사랑하는 우리 KPCM 자녀들과 가족들과 교회에, 성령강림후 열세번째 주일을 맞아, 제8계명을 통하여, 하나님께서 각 사람에게 분배해 주신 재물들을 존중해 주고 또 그것을 누릴 수 있도록 해 줌으로써, 하나님께서 모든 축복의 근원이 됨을 인정하고 하나님께 감사를 올려 드릴 수 있기를 소망합니다.
- I pray that His beloved KPCM children, families and church may confess that God is the fountain of all blessings and they lift up gratitude to God, by keeping the eighth commandment not to steal and to respect others’ possessions and to help to promote their wealth in the thirteenth week after Pentecost.
Activity questions and thought behind
Q1 God gave all the earthly blessings to His creatures through which they can live for their whole life. But, since the world is corrupted by the sin, due to the economic polarization: the rich grow richer and the poor grow poorer, lots of poor people have been suffering. I wonder if you have seen some of your friends stole other’s possession? I hope you may share your experience and why you think God prohibit to steal with your friends. 여러분 하나님께서는 이 세상의 모든 사람들이 평생을 먹고 살 수 있는 분복을 각자에게 주셨습니다. 그런데, 세상이 죄로 인하여 부패하여 있다보니, 부익부 빈익빈 부의 편중 현상 때문에 많은 사람들이 고통을 받고 있는 것이 사실입니다. 혹 여러분들의 친구들중에서 남의 것을 도둑질하는 것을 본 적이 있나요? 그런 경험이 있다면 친구들과 나누어 주었으면 좋겠습니다. 그리고 왜 하나님께서 도둑질을 하지 말라고 하셨을지 여러분들의 생각을 친구들과 나누어 줄 수 있으면 좋겠습니다.
(이 질문을 통하여, 우리 아이들이 일상에서도 작든 크든 이런 도둑질이 일어날 수도 있다는 것을 알았으면 좋겠고 또 왜 그런 도둑질이 나쁜지 스스로 생각해 보는 시간을 가질 수 있기를 소망합니다. 다양한 생각과 의견과 감정과 경험을 표현할 때 공감해 주시면서, 때때로 생각의 이유도 물어 보시면서 아이들과 적극적 경청과 공감의 대화를 나누실 수 있으시기를 소망합니다.)
(Through this question, I hope our children may recognize that we can see stealing in our daily life and also have a time to think why God prohibits to steal. When your children express diverse thoughts, opinions, emotions, or experiences, I hope you may empathize with them to enjoy the conversation of empathy through active listening, sometimes asking their thoughts behind.)
Q2 Through the eighth commandment, God prohibited not just only to steal others’ but also to steal other’s glory or honor even though he or she did not do it. I am wondering if you witness that someone stole other’s glory or honor, even though she or he did not actually do it? If you witnessed that case, I hope you may share it with your friends. 그런데 하나님께서는 이 8계명을 통해서, 남의 물건 뿐 만 아니라 다른 친구가 받아야 될 칭찬이나 남의 명예를 훔치는 것도 금하고 있는데, 실은 우리 일상에서도 그런 일이 일어나기도 합니다. 친구가 한 일이 아닌데도 자기가 한 일인 것처럼 해서 친구가 받아야 할 칭찬을 본인이 받기도 하는 등의 경우가 있는데 혹 여러분들이 이런 경우를 경험했다면 친구들과 나누어 주면 좋겠습니다.
(이 질문을 통하여, 우리 자녀들이 친구가 한 일을 자기가 하지 않은 일처럼 하여서 남이 받아야 할 칭찬을 자기가 가로채는 경우도 도둑질에 해당된다는 것을 깨달았으면 좋겠습니다. 다양한 생각과 의견과 감정과 경험을 표현할 때 공감해 주시면서, 때때로 생각의 이유도 물어 보시면서 아이들과 적극적 경청과 공감의 대화를 나누실 수 있으시기를 소망합니다.)
