Today’s Scripture:
Ps 27:1-3, 7-14
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall.
3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.
7 Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me.
8 My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek.
9 Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper.
Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior.
10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.
11 Teach me your way, Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.
12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations.
13 I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
14 Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. (NIV)

Frustrated and disappointed with church, seventeen-year-old Trevor began a years-long quest for answers. But nothing he explored seemed to satisfy his longings or answer his questions.
His journey did draw him closer to his parents. Still, he had problems with Christianity. During one discussion, he exclaimed bitterly, “The Bible is full of empty promises.”
Another man faced disappointment and hardship that fueled his doubts. But as David fled from enemies who sought to kill him, his response was not to run from God but to praise Him. “Though war break out against me, even then I will be confident,” he sang (Psalm 27:3).
Yet David’s poem still hints at doubt. His cry, “Be merciful to me and answer me” ( v. 7), sounds like a man with fears and questions. “Do not hide your face from me,” David pleaded. “Do not reject me or forsake me” ( v. 9).
David didn’t let his doubts paralyze him, however. Even in those doubts, he declared, “I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living” ( v. 13). Then he addressed his readers: you, me, and the Trevors of this world. “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord” ( v. 14).
We won’t find fast, simple answers to our huge questions. But we will find—when we wait for Him—a God who can be trusted.-TIM GUSTAFSON

교회에 좌절하고 실망한 17세의 트레버는 답을 찾기 위해 일 년간의 탐구를 시작했습니다. 하지만 그가 탐구한 어떤 것도 그가 바라는 바를 만족시키지도, 그의 질문들에 대한 답도 주지 못하는 것 같았습니다.
그 과정을 통해 부모님과 더 가까워지기는 했지만, 여전히 그는 기독교 신앙에 대해 회의적이었습니다. 어떤 토론 중에 그는 “성경은 공허한 약속들로 가득 차 있다”고 쓴 소리를 내뱉었습니다.
실망과 역경을 겪으며 의심이 더해 갔던 사람이 또 있습니다. 그러나 다윗은 그를 죽이려는 적들로부터 도망칠 때, 하나님으로부터 달아나지 않고 오히려 하나님을 찬양했습니다. “전쟁이 일어나 적군이 나를 칠지라도 내가 여전히 하나님을 의지하리라”(시편 27:3, 현대인의 성경).
하지만 다윗의 시는 여전히 의심에 머물러 있음을 암시적으로 보여줍니다. 그는 공포와 의문에 쌓인 사람처럼 이렇게 울부짖습니다. “나를 긍휼히 여기사 응답하소서”(7절). 그는 애원합니다. “주의 얼굴을 내게서 숨기지 마시고…… 나를 버리지 마시고 떠나지 마소서”(9절).
그러나 다윗은 의심이 그를 마비시키도록 내버려두지 않았습니다. 의심 속에서도 그는 “내가 산 자들의 땅에서 여호와의 선하심을 보게 될 줄 확실히 믿었도다”(13절)라고 선언합니다. 그리고 그의 독자들, 곧 당신과 나, 그리고 이 세상의 트레버들에게 전합니다. “너는 여호와를 기다릴지어다 강하고 담대하며 여호와를 기다릴지어다”(14절).
우리는 아주 큰 의문에 대해 빠르고 간단한 답을 구할 수 없습니다. 그러나 우리가 하나님의 응답을 기다릴 때 신뢰할 수 있는 그분을 만나게 될 것입니다.
커다란 의문이 생길 때 어떻게 하십니까? “산 자들의 땅”(시편 27:13) 어디에서 해답을 찾았습니까? 그리고 어디에서 그 해답을 아직 기다리고 있습니까?
하나님 아버지, 나의 두려움과 분노와 함께 나의 마음을 녹여 주소서.
