영과 진리로 예배하는 예배자를 찾으시는 하나님 아버지께서, 우리의 예배를 통해 올려 드리는 모든 감사와 찬양과 영광을 기쁘게 받으실 줄 믿습니다.

오늘은 연중시기 열다섯번째 주일입니다. 지난 주에는 요셉과 유다의 이야기를 통해 하나님께서 이스라엘 왕국, 즉 북유다와 남이스라엘 왕가를 일으키시는 과정을 살펴 보면서, 구원사와 세계사를 이끌어 가시는 하나님의 주권과 섭리를 보았습니다. 이번 주에는 이제 70인의 야곱 가족이 애굽에 들어가 하나님의 보호와 축복 속에 성장하여, 거대한 민족을 이루게 하시고 마침내 약속하셨던 400여년이 지나자, 이제 이들을 애굽에서 이끌어 내셔서 약속의 땅 가나안으로 다시 돌아오게 하시고, 시내산에서 언약을 체결하시며 하나님의 백성으로 삼으시는 하나님의 신실하심을 살펴보면서, 함께 은혜 나누기를 원합니다.
Today is the fifteenth Sunday of the Ordinary Time. Last week, through the stories of Joseph and Judah, we looked at how God prepared two kingdoms of Israel – the royal families of northern Judah and southern Israel and saw God’s sovereignty and providence leading the history of salvation and also His world. This week, we will mediate on the faithfulness of God who made the 70 Jacob’s family entered Egypt and grow them into a great nation of around two millions and then finally brought them out of Egypt to return to the promised land of Canaan after 400 years as He promised with making the covenant at Mount Sinai and instructing them how to live as His people.
- 비록 가나안 땅이 약속의 땅이지만, 한 작은 가족이 하나님의 부르심 안에 그 정체성의 뿌리를 두고, 마침내 거대한 민족으로 성장하기는 참으로 쉽지 않을 것입니다. 그래서 인지 하나님께서는 이미 아브라함에게 “네 자손이 이방에서 객이 되어 그들을 섬기겠고 그들은 사백 년 동안 네 자손을 괴롭”힐 것이라고 말씀해 주신데로 (창 15:13 ), 야곱의 열두 아들과 그들의 자손들 모두를 합하여 70명의 대가족을 온 땅에 닥친 기근을 통하여 애굽으로 내려가게 하셨습니다.
- Although the land of Canaan was the Promised Land, it was not easy for a small family to root to there as God’s call and to grow into a great nation. So as That God had already told Abraham, “Your descendants will be foreigners in the Gentiles and serve them, and they will afflict your descendants for four hundred years” (Gen 15:13), God made Jacob’s twelve sons and all of their descendants of 70 people go down to Egypt through the famine that struck the whole earth.
- 그리고 “그들이 섬기는 나라를 내가 징벌할지며 그 후에 네 자손이 큰 재물을 이끌고 나오리라 (창15:14)”고 말씀해 주신데로, 이스라엘 백성이 애굽에 거주한 지 사백삼십 년이 지나자, 마침내 그들을 인도하여 내어 홍해를 건너 (출 12:40-41), 가나안으로 인도하시기 시작하셨습니다.
- And as He said to Abraham, “I will punish the nation they serve, and after that your descendants will bring great wealth” (Gen 15:14), God brought them out from Egypt and made them cross the Red Sea (Ex 12:40-41), and began to lead them to Canaan after 430 years later since the Israelites lived in Egypt.
- 그러나, 하나님께서는 블레셋 사람들이 살던 해안가로 난 가까운 길로 인도하시지 않으시고, 광야로 난 길로 이스라엘 백성을 인도하셨는데, 이는 그들이 전쟁을 하게 되면 마음을 돌이켜 애굽으로 돌아갈까 염려하셨기 때문이었습니다. (출 13:17)
- However, God did not lead the Israelites along the road near the coast where the Philistines lived, but led the Israelites along the road through the wilderness, because he worried that they would turn their hearts and return to Egypt if they were in war. (Ex 13:17)
- 그리고 떨기나무 불꽃 가운데서, 모세를 부르셔서 “이제 내가 너를 바로에게 보내어 너에게 내 백성 이스라엘 자손을 애굽에서 인도하여 내게 하리라 … 내가 반드시 너와 함께 있으리라 네가 그 백성을 애굽에서 인도하여 낸 후에 너희가 이 산에서 하나님을 섬기리니 이것이 내가 너를 보낸 증거 (출 3:10,12)”가 될 것이라고 말씀해 주신데로, 모세가 이백만명 (추산)이 넘는 대민족과 함께 하나님의 인도하심을 받아, 하나님의 산, 시내산 (호렙산)에 도착하였고, 하나님께서는 그들이 가나안 정복을 위하여 시내산을 떠나기 까지 (민 10:11) 1년여를 시내산에 머물게 하시면서, 그들과 시내 언약을 맺으시고, 율법과 성막규례를 그들에게 주심으로, 하나님의 백성으로 변화시켜 가십니다.
- And in the midst of the firing bush, as God called Moses and said, “So now, go, I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt and I will be with you and this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you (Ex 3:10,12),” God led Moses and more than two million people (estimated) to arrive at the Mount of God, Mount Sinai (Mt. Horeb). By letting them stay on Mt. Sinai for a year, until they left Mount Sinai to conquer Canaan (Num. 10:11), God made a covenant with them, and gave them the law and the ordinances of the tabernacle to transform them into God’s people.
- 오늘 본문 말씀은 바로 그 시내산 언약의 내용으로, 4절의 언약의 서언, 5-6절 하나님의 약속, 7-8절 백성들의 응답으로 구성되어 있습니다. 4절의 서언은 먼저 하나님께서 어떻게 애굽의 군대를 물리치시고 독수리가 그 어린 새끼들을 날개로 품음같이 그들을 품어 인도하여 내셨는지를 온 이스라엘 백성이 보았음을 상기시켜 주시는데, 이러한 기억은 결국 그들에게 하나님과의 언약을 지킬 동기와 힘을 공급할 것이기 때문입니다. 그리고 5-6절의 하나님의 약속은 이스라엘 백성이 하나님께 순종하면, 세상, 즉 하나님의 모든 소유 중에서 ‘가장 보배롭고 귀한 소유’가 될 뿐 만아니라, 이스라엘 백성이 하나님과 세상 사람들 사이의 중재자로 하나님의 뜻을 전달하는 제사장 나라가 될 것이며, 세상과 구별되어 하나님께 드리는 삶을 사는 거룩한 하나님의 백성이 되어, 하나님의 사랑을 받으며 교제하는 특권을 누릴 뿐 만 아니라, 또한 거룩한 삶을 살아감으로 하나님의 영광을 드러내는 책임이 있음을 알게 해 주십니다.
- Today’s text is the content of the covenant at Sinai, consisting of the preface to the covenant in verse 4, the promise of God in verses 5-6, and the response of the people in verses 7-8. The preface in verse 4 reminds the Israelites that all the Israelites saw how God defeated the army of Egypt and brought them out as an eagle embraced their young with wings. This provides the motivation and strength to keep the covenant. And God’s promise in verses 5-6 indicates that when the Israelites obey God, they not only become the ‘most precious possession’ of the world but, also a kingdom of priests as mediators between God and the people of the world and also a holy nation who convey the will of God, after being consecrated from the world, while enjoying the privilege of communion with God’s love and revealing His holiness of glory to the world.
- 그런데, 우리가 시내산 언약 즉 모세 언약을 이해할 때, 한가지 꼭 기억해야 하는 것은 이 모세 언약을 하나님의 구원의 은혜를 얻기 위한 수단으로 이해해서는 안되고, 하나님의 은혜 언약 (창 12:1-3 에서 아브라함에게 주신 하나님의 은혜 언약)의 틀 위에서 이해해야 한다는 사실입니다. 즉, 이 시내산 언약과 지켜야 할 언약의 내용으로 구성된 십계명과 이어지는 제사법과 사회법등은 그 내용을 지킴으로 구원을 받기 위해 주신 것이 아니라, 언약의 서언 “내가 애굽 사람에게 어떻게 행하였음과 내가 어떻게 독수리 날개로 너희를 업어 내게로 인도하였음을 너희가 보았느니라 (출 19:4)”과 십계명의 서언 “나는 너를 애굽 땅, 종 되었던 집에서 인도하여 낸 네 하나님 여호와니라 (출 20:2)”는 말씀에서 보듯, 이 시내산에서 모세를 통하여 이스라엘 백성들과 맺은 언약은 애굽에서 구원받은 하나님의 거룩한 백성 이스라엘 백성들이 하나님 앞에서 어떻게 살아야 할 지에 대한 삶의 지침인 (Instruction for life before God’s presence) 하나님의 법과 또 어떻게 하나님께 예배할지를 구체적으로 알려주는 성막 규례에 대한 것으로 이해해야 하는 것입니다.
- By the way, when we see the Sinai covenant, i.e., the Mosaic Covenant, one thing we have to remember is that this Mosaic Covenant should not be understood as a means to obtain God’s salvation, rather we have to understand it under God’s covenant of grace (Gen 12:1-3) which is given to Abraham, i.e., the covenant at Sinai including the Ten Commandments, the sacrificial law and social law, etc., is not the way to achieve the salvation by keeping them, rather it is the instruction of God which shows how His people who were redeem by grace of God should live and worship God in the land of Canaan. The preface to the covenant at Sinai “You have seen that I took you up and brought you to me (Ex 19:4)” and the preface to the Ten Commandments, “I am the Lord thy God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves (Exodus 20:2)” clearly show that.
- 그러므로, 하나님의 택하신 족속이 되어, 예수 그리스도의 구속 사역으로 말미암아 하나님의 왕같은 제사장이요 거룩한 나라요 하나님의 특별한 소유 (벧전 2:9)가 된 우리 모두는, 우리의 정체성에 걸맞게, 하나님의 은혜에 감사하는 삶을 살되, 하나님의 뜻을 쫓아 거룩과 사랑으로 사면서, 하나님의 아름다운 덕을 선포하고 하나님께 영광을 올려 드리는 삶을 사는 우리 모두가 되기를 기도합니다.
- Therefore, all of us, as God’s chosen people, remember that we were redeemed by the work of Jesus Christ, to become God’s royal priests, holy nations, and special possessions of God (1 Peter 2:9). Based on this identity, we have to live a life of gratitude for the grace of God, to live in holiness and love in pursuit of God’s will, and proclaim God’s beautiful virtues, giving glory to God. I pray that all of you have these blessings in your lives.

Q1 God said “You are my treasured possession, although the whole earth is mine.” How about you? Do you have your treasured possession? How do you treat it? 이 세상에 있는 모든 것이 하나님 것이라고 말씀하셨는데, 여러분들이 그 중에 가장 귀하고 소중한 것이라고 하나님께서 말씀하셨습니다. 여러분 여러분들이 가진 것 중에 가장 귀한 것이 무엇이십니까? 그리고 그것을 어떻게 다루시는지요?
(이 질문을 통해서, 우리 자녀들이 두가지 사실을 깨닫게 되었으면 좋겠습니다. 첫째는 이 세상 모든 것이 하나님의 것, 즉 하나님은 교회를 다니는 사람도 또 교회를 다니지 않는 사람 모두의 하나님이시라는 사실과 두번째로는 그중에서 특별히 하나님의 백성들인 우리 크리스천들은 하나님께 아주 특별하고 귀한 존재이며, 따라서 그에 합당하게 사랑과 은혜와 보살핌을 넘치도록 해 주시는 분이라는 사실입니다. 다양한 생각과 의견과 감정과 경험을 표현할 때 공감해 주시면서, 때때로 생각의 이유도 물어 보시면서 아이들과 적극적 경청과 공감의 대화를 나누실 수 있으시기를 소망합니다.)
(Through this question, I hope that our children will know two things. First, that everything in this world is God’s. God is the God of Christians and also non-Christians. Secondly, among them, we, Christians as God’s people, are very special and precious to God, so that God provides love, grace, and care for us. By empathizing when expressing various thoughts, opinions, feelings, and experiences and sometimes by asking the reason for their thoughts, you may enjoy a warm conversation with your children.)
Q2 God said “You will be a kingdom of priest for me”. God’s priests sacrifice to God (Num 16:40), teach His people (2 Chr 15:3), and also discern and transfer God’s will to His people (Ex 28:30). You are called also as His priest from the world, then how will you live as His priest and for what purpose? 우리는 또 이 세상에 대하여 하나님의 제사장 나라라고 말씀하셨는데, 하나님의 제사장들은 하나님께 제사를 드리고, 신앙을 지도하며, 하나님의 뜻을 묻고 또 그 뜻을 전달하는 사람들이었습니다. 여러분들도 이 세상에서 제사장으로 불러 주셨는데, 하나님의 제사장으로 어떻게 사시겠습니까?
