영과 진리로 예배하는 예배자를 찾으시는 하나님 아버지께서, 우리의 예배를 통해 올려 드리는 모든 감사와 찬양과 영광을 기쁘게 받으실 줄 믿습니다.

오늘은 연중시기 열여섯번째 주일입니다. 지난 주에는 애굽에서 고통받는 이스라엘 백성들을 지도자 모세를 일으키셔서, 애굽에서 이끌어 내시고 약속의 땅 가나안으로 다시 돌아오게 하시는데, 첫 기착지인 시내산에 이르러, 그들과 언약을 체결하시고 하나님의 백성으로 어떻게 살아야 하는지 또 하나님께 어떻게 예배드려야 하는지 가르쳐 주신 것을 보았습니다. 이번 주에는 우여곡절 끝에 모세가 죽고, 마침내 가나안 점령을 위해, 요단강 동쪽 건너편 모압 땅에서 있는 여호수아를 리더로 세우시고, 이스라엘 백성들을 인도하여 약속하신 가나안 땅을 정복하는 과정을 살펴보면서, 함께 은혜 나누기를 소망합니다.
Today is the 16th Sunday of the second Ordinary Time. Last week, we saw that God brought the Israelites out who suffered in Egypt, through Moses’ leadership, back to Canaan, the promised land. When they arrived at Mount Sinai, the first stop, God made a covenant with them, taught them how to live as God’s holy people, and how to worship God. This week, we would like to share the grace of the Lord by looking at the process of conquering the promised land of Canaan by setting Joshua as the leader in the land of Moab across the eastern side of the Jordan River for the final occupation of Canaan after Moses died at the end of the twists and turns.
- 지난주 하나님께서는 애굽에서 종살이하면서 고된 노역으로 신음하는 이스라엘 백성들을 구속하셔서 홍해를 지나, 마침내 시내산으로 인도하시고 그들과 언약 (출 19:4-6)을 체결하시고, 율법과 성막 규례를 주시고 그들을 훈련하셨습니다.
- As we saw last week, God redeemed the Israelites who were groaning with hard labor while enslaved in Egypt, through the Red Sea, and finally led them to Mount Sinai, made a covenant with them (Ex. 19:4-6), gave them the law and the ordinances of the tabernacle, and trained them.
- 그리고 1년이 되자 (민 10:11) 마침내 성막의 구름기둥이 일어나면서 200만명에 달하는 이스라엘 백성들을 이끌고 가나안 땅을 향해 행군하게 하셨고, 마침내 호렙산 (시내산) 을 떠나 바란 광야를 열 하룻길을 걸어 가데스-바네아 (지금의 예루살렘에서 약 100마일 남쪽) 에 이르러 진을 쳤고, 각 지파별로 한사람씩 열두명의 정탐꾼을 가나안 전역에 정탐꾼으로 보내었습니다.
- And after one year later (Num. 10:11), the pillar of cloud of the tabernacle arose, leading 2 million Israelites to march toward the land of Canaan, and leaving Mt. Horeb (Mt. Sinai). And they camped at Kadesh-Banea, after walking ten days in the wilderness of Paran, (about 100 miles south of what is now Jerusalem), and sent twelve spies, one from each tribe, to spy out the Canaan.
- 그런데 40일 동안 이스라엘 최북단 르보하맛에 이르기까지 정탐을 마치고 돌아온 정탐꾼들은 여호수아와 갈렙만 제외하고 모두 “여호와 하나님께서 우리에게 주시는 땅이 좋기는 하지만 (민 신 1:25), 그 땅에 거하는 아낙자손들이 장대하여 마치 우리는 메뚜기 같다”고 하면서 부정적인 보고를 하고 모든 백성들이 낙심하여 하나님을 불신하고 원망하게 되었습니다. (신 1:22-32) 그러자 백성들의 불신과 원망소리를 들은 하나님께서는 그들에게 노하셔서 하나님을 믿지 아니하는 1세대들은 모두 약속의 땅에 들어가지 못하고, 여호수아와 갈렙과 그리고 그의 자손들에게 줄 것이라고 하셨고, 40년 동안을 전전하며, 모든 1세대들이 광야에서 죽자, 그들을 사해 동쪽 에돔 땅을 지나 요단강 동편 모압 땅으로 인도하셨고, 그곳에서 모세가 죽자, 여호수아를 새로운 리더로 삼으시고, 약속의 땅 가나안을 정복하게 하셨고 열두지파에게 그 땅을 나누어 주셨습니다.
- But, all the spies who returned after spying for 40 days to Rebo Hamath, the northernmost part of Israel, except Joshua and Caleb, said, “The land that the LORD God gives us is good (Num. 1:25), but the offsprings of the Anak, who are magnificent, and we are like grasshoppers.” Because of a negative report, all the Israelites became discouraged and distrusted and resent God. (Deut. 1:22-32) Then, when God heard the disbelief and resentment of the people, God was angry with them, and said that all the first generations who did not believe in God could not enter the promised Land and would give it to Joshua, Caleb, and their descendants. For 40 years, when all the first generation died in the wilderness, God led them through the land of Edom on the east side of the Dead Sea to the land of Moab on the east side of the Jordan River. When Moses died there, God made Joshua a new leader, conquered Canaan, the promised land, and distributed it to the twelve tribes.
- 오늘 본문 말씀은 이제 마침내 요단을 건너 가나안 첫 성인 여리고성을 무너뜨리기 전, 요단 동쪽 싯딤에서 여호수아에게 하신 말씀으로, “강하고 담대하라”고 세번이나 말씀하시면서, 첫째로는 약속하신 가나안 땅을 반드시 너희에게 주시겠다는 말씀(v.6)과 위대한 지도자 모세의 뒤를 이은 여호수아에게 하나님의 율법책을 입에서 떠나지 말게 하고 늘 묵상하며 그 말씀데로 행하면 지혜를 얻을 뿐 만 아니라, 앞길이 형통하게 될 것이라고 안위하시며 (vv.7-8), 그렇게 강하고 담대해야 할 이유는 여호수아가 어디를 가든지 하나님 여호와께서 함께 하실 것이기 때문이라고 말씀해 주셨습니다.
- Today’s text is a word spoken to Joshua at Siddim, east of Jordan, before crossing the Jordan and destroying Jericho, the first city of Canaan. He said, “Be strong and courageous,” three times. First, God confirmed again that the promised land of Canaan will surely be given to them (v.6), and secondly, God convinced Joshua, who succeeded Moses, the great leader, that if Joshua read the book of God’s law, memorizing, meditating and walking in it, not only will he gain wisdom, but he will also prosper (vv.7-8). And finally the reason why he should be so strong and courageous is because the Lord God will be with him wherever he goes.
- 그렇습니다. 오늘 여호수아에게 주셨던 하나님의 말씀은 삼천수백년을 넘어, 불안과 걱정이 우리를 짓누르는 판데믹 상황에서 또 On-line 과 Off-line 수업을 병행하는 새로운 학기를 맞은 우리 자녀들과 가정에도, 참 힘이 되고 위로가 되는 말씀이 되기를 소망합니다. 비록 눈 앞에 펼쳐진 상황들은 우리를 힘들게 하지만, 주님께서 우리의 영안을 열어 주셔서, 전능자 여호와 하나님! 영원한 언약을 신실하게 지키시는 우리 하나님께서 우리와 함께 하심을 보게 하여 주시고, 또 우리에게 주신 말씀들을 읽고 암송하고 묵상하고 또 말씀대로 순종하며 행하는 우리 모두에게 하나님의 지혜와 지식 (신 4:6)을 더해 주심으로, 학업도 삶의 도전도 극복하여 마침내 가나안 복지의 땅을 정복하고 하나님께서 예비하신 모든 축복을 받아누리는 우리 모든 어린이들과 가정이 되기를 기도합니다.
- Indeed, I hope the word of God that was given to Joshua three thousand and hundreds years ago may make us strong and give us comfort to our children and families who have to start new semester with the combined classes of online and offline, in the midst of pandemic situation where anxiety and worries weigh on us. Although the circumstances that unfold before our eyes make us difficult, I pray that the Lord may open our spirits so that we can see the LORD, God Almighty who faithfully keeps His eternal covenant, is with us, and gives us the wisdom and knowledge of God (Deut. 4:6) to all of us who read, memorize, meditate on, and obey the words that have been given to us and we, all of our children and their families may overcome the challenges of our studies and life and finally conquer the land of Canaan to enjoy His blessings ‘s welfare which God has prepared.

Q1 When sometimes you happen to meet a dreadful and threatening person, how do you feel? But even in the same time, if you are with your father and mother together, how do you feel? Why? 여러분! 때때로 험상궃게 생기고 아주 위협적인 사람을 만날 때가 있지 않습니까? 그럴때 어떤 마음이 들든가요? 그런데, 같은 사람을 만나더라도 여러분들이 아빠 엄마의 손을 잡고 있을 때는 어떻든가요? 왜 그렇게 다르지요?
(이 질문을 통해서, 우리 자녀들이 아무리 어렵고 두려운 상황이라도, 든든하게 믿을 수 있는 사람이 함께 있으면, 전혀 두렵지도 무섭지도 않을 수 있다는 것을 깨닫게 되기를 원합니다. 즉 두려움과 무서움은 절대적인 감정이 아니라, 우리가 누구와 함께 하는가에 따라 상대적으로 다르게도 느낄 수 있는 것임을 알기를 원합니다. 다양한 생각과 의견과 감정과 경험을 표현할 때 공감해 주시면서, 때때로 생각의 이유도 물어 보시면서 아이들과 적극적 경청과 공감의 대화를 나누실 수 있으시기를 소망합니다.)
(Through this question, I hope our children to realize no matter how difficult and frightening they are, they can neither be afraid nor scared at all if they are with someone they can rely on or trust. In other words, fear aren’t absolute emotions, but things that we can feel relatively differently depending on who we are with. We hope that you will be able to enjoy a conversation of positive listening and empathy with your children by empathizing with them when expressing various thoughts, opinions, feelings and experiences, and sometimes asking the reason for your thoughts.)
Q2 If you really believe that God Almighty who created this world and reigns, how do you feel about the things and challenges which make you hard and dreadful? 만약 천지를 창조하신 전능한 하나님께서 우리와 함께 하심을 진정 믿는다면, 오늘 그렇게 힘들다고 생각했던 혹은 두려웠던 일들이 어떻게 우리에게 다가올까요?

Q3 We all want to be wise, aren’t you? How can we be wise then? God said that we can be wise when we read His Book of truth, memorize, meditate and live as it commands to do, in Joshua 4:7-8 and Deuteronomy 4:6. How do you think His Word make us wise? 우리들 모두는 지혜롭기를 원합니다. 그러면 어떻게 지혜롭게 될 수 있을까요? 하나님께서는 여호수아 4:7-8절과 신명기 4:6절에서 하나님의 말씀인 성경을 읽고 묵상하고 그 말씀대로 행하여 살면, 우리가 지혜롭게 된다고 말씀하십니다. 왜 그럴까요?

(Through this question, we want our children to realize that reading, memorizing, meditating on the Word of God, and living according to it makes us wise. Wisdom does not arise from simply knowing something, but applying that knowledge to life. Through the process of success and failure, we hope that our children will be able to walk with God and the word of God and grow in the wisdom of God. We hope that you will be able to share sympathetic dialogue with the children by sympathizing with them when expressing them, asking the reason for their thoughts from time to time.)
