영과 진리로 예배하는 예배자를 찾으시는 하나님 아버지께서, 우리의 예배를 통해 올려 드리는 모든 감사와 찬양과 영광을 기쁘게 받으실 줄 믿습니다.

오늘은 연중시기 열아홉번째 주일입니다. 지난 주에는 우리가 약속의 땅 가나안 땅에서 살아갈 때에 주님께서는 우리 삶의 우선순위를 점검하시기 위해 때때로 우리에게 믿음의 도전을 주실 때도 있는데, 그때 우리는 끝까지 주님 곁에 붙어 있으면서, 주님께 우리의 부족함을 드러내 놓고 주님 도와 주심을 구하며 주님을 붙쫓는 과정에서 우리의 믿음도 성장하게 된다고 배웠습니다. 이번 주에는 단순히 삶의 우선 순위를 점검하는 수준이 아니라, 실제적인 삶의 고해를 통과해야 하는 순간도 있습니다. 그때 우리가 어떻게 그 어려움을 극복할 수 있을지 함께 고민해 보면서 은혜 나누기를 원합니다.
Today is the nineteenth Sunday of the Ordinary Time. as we lived in the promised land of Canaan, sometimes our Lord challenges us of faith to check our priorities in our lives. In that case, we learned that we have to stick to Him, open our problems to Him, openly seek the Lord’s help and try to follow Him, to cultivate our faith. This week, not just in the case of checking your life priorities but in the situation when we have to go through the sufferings of life, we would like to learn how we can overcome those challenges.
- 오늘의 본문은 28절 “수고하고 무거운 짐 진 자들아 다 내게로 오라 내가 너희를 쉬게 하리라”는 말씀과 29-30절 “나는 마음이 온유하고 겸손하니 나의 멍에를 메고 내게 배우라 그리하면 너희 마음이 쉼을 얻으리니 이는 내 멍에는 쉽고 내 짐은 가벼움이라”는 말씀은 누구나가 좋아하는 구절이지 않을까 싶습니다.
- Today’s texts, verse 28, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” and verses 29-30, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” are one of the phrases that everyone likes.
- 그런데 오늘의 본문 28~30절을 더 깊이 이해하기 위해서는 25~27절 말씀에 대한 Context 를 먼저 이해하는 것이 좋을 것 같습니다. 마태복음 11장은 평생을 광야에서 지내면서 주님의 길을 예비했던 세례 요한이 이사야서 61장 1-2절에 나오는 ‘메시야”에 대한 예언의 말씀이 이루어질 것을 사모하면서 “회개하라 천국이 가까왔느니라”고 외치다 헤롯 안티바스에 의해 감옥에 수감되었고, 세례 요한은 예수님께서 자기가 기다려오던 메시야이신지 확인하기 위하여 그의 제자들을 보냈고, 예수님께서는 그가 하시는 사역이 구약에서 예언된 메시야의 사역임을 확인시켜 주셨고, 사람들에게 세례 요한이 이 세상에서 가장 큰 자임을 말씀해 주셨습니다.
- However, in order to better understand verses 28~30, it would be good to first understand the context of verses 25~27. In Matthew 11, John the Baptist, who spent his whole life in the wilderness, preparing the way for the Lord, longed for the fulfillment of the prophetic words of the “Messiah” in Isaiah 61: 1-2, had been proclaiming “Repent, the kingdom of heaven is near.” But, when he was imprisoned by Herod Antipas, John the Baptist sent his disciples to confirm that Jesus was the Messiah he had been waiting for, so that Jesus confirmed that his work was the work of the Messiah as it was prophesied in the Old Testament. He told people that John the Baptist is the greatest in the world.
- 그리고 이어서, 이 세례 요한은 구약에서 예언된 다시 올 엘리야, 즉 주님의 길을 예배하는 선지자였지만, 세상 사람들이 그를 알아 보지 못하였을 뿐 만 아니라, 예수님께서 행하신 많은 기적들을 보고도 회개치 않음을 보시고 책망을 하셨고 이어, 이 모든 일들은 슬기 있는 자들에게는 숨기시고 어린 아이들에게만 계시된 하나님의 뜻이라고 말씀하셨습니다.
- And then, Jesus said that even though John the Baptist was the prophet who prepared the way of the Lord, Elijah to come again, as God foretold in the Old Testament, but the people of the world did not recognize him. And also Jesus rebuked the people who did not repent after seeing the many miracles Jesus performed. He said that all these things are hidden from the wise and are revealed only to little children.
- 그럼에도 불구하고, 주님께서는 무리들을 향해 “수고하고 무거운 짐진 자들아 다 내게로 오라 내가 너희를 쉬게 하시리라”는 복음에로의 초대를 하셨습니다.
- Even with that, the Lord invited the crowd to the Gospel, saying, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
- 그렇습니다. 복음은 자기 스스로를 지혜롭게 여겨 자신의 힘으로 자기를 구원할 수 있다고 믿는 사람들에게는 감추어져 있는 것인 반면, 어린 아이와 같이 자기를 낮추는 자, 마음이 가난한 자, 그리고 하나님 앞에서 자기가 아무것도 할 수 없는 존재임을 고백하는 자에게는 영원한 생명을 얻는 복된 소식이 됨을 말씀해 주신 것입니다.
- Yes! The Gospel is hidden from those who consider themselves wise and believe that they can save themselves by their own strength, but Jesus taught that it is the good news of eternal life for those who humble themselves like little children, those who have poor hearts, and those who confess that they cannot do anything before God.
- 복음을 받아들이기 위해서는 자기가 수고하고 무거운 짐진 자임을 먼저 깨달아야 합니다. 그리고 그 고해의 짐은 자기 스스로는 벗어 버릴 수 없는 것임을 깨닫고, 하나님께 나아와야 합니다.
- In order to accept the Gospel, you must first realize that you are a person who is weary and is heavy burdened. And you must come to God, realizing that you cannot take off the burden by yourself.
- 그래서, 예수님께서는 자기의 성품, 즉 우리가 입어야 할 성품이 온유와 겸손이라고 말씀하신 것입니다. 여기서 겸손이란 하나님 앞에서 자기가 할 수 있는 것이 아무것도 없음을 고백하는 것, 즉 절대 무능을 고백하는 것이며, 온유란 하나님의 명령에 절대 순종하는 성품을 의미 하는데, 이는 중생 가운데 그 은혜를 입지만, 또한 주님께서 주시는 멍에 (고대 근동의 멍에는 두마리 가축이 같이 끌도록 되어 있었음) 를 주님과 함께 지고 갈 때, 이러한 주님의 성품을 점점 덧입게 되는데, 이를 성화라고 부릅니다.
- So, Jesus said that his character, which we should wear, is meekness and humility. Here, humility refers to confessing that there is nothing that one can do before God and to confess total inability. Meekness refers to the character of obeying God’s command. We can receive these character firstly in regeneration, but also when we carry the yoke that the Lord gave us. we gradually put on the Lord’s character. This is called as the sanctification.
- 기도하옵기는 사랑하는 우리 어린이들과 가정과 교회가, 이런 온유와 겸손, 즉 예수님의 성품을 덧 입고 주님 안에서 쉼을 얻을 뿐 만 아니라, 주님께서 함께 져 주시기에 가볍고 지기 쉬운 주님의 멍에와 짐을 지고 주님과 함께 동행하는 모든 주님의 참된 제자들 다 되시기를 기도합니다.
- I pray that our beloved children, homes, and church not only gain rest in the Lord with such meekness and humility, which is the character of Jesus but also that the Lord will be with you, who as the true disciples of the Lord light, take easy to bear the yoke, the burden of the Lord, and walk with Him.

Q1 Have you seen the yoke for plowing? In the ancient middle east, the yoke is designed to be pulled by two livestock like ox or horse. As, it is easier to work together with others when we have to do hard work, so do you have any friend or people to whom you ask favor to work with you? 혹시 소나 말이 끄는 밭을 갈 때 쓰는 멍에를 보신 적이 있습니까? 고대 근동지방에서는 소나 말 등 두 마리가 함께 끌도록 만들어져 되어 있답니다. 있끄는 것도 있는 것 같습니다. 우리도 힘든 일은 같이 하면 더 쉽게 할 수 있을 것 입니다. 혹시 여러분들이 힘들어 할 때면 누구에게 도와달라고 하시나요?
(이 질문을 통해서, 우리 자녀들이 혼자 보다는 두사람이 함께 할 때 어려운 일도 더 쉽게 감당할 수 있게 된다는 것을 깨닫기를 원합니다. 그리고 또 자기에게 그런 친구들이나 자기들을 도와주는 사람들이 주위에 있는지 생각해 보는 시간이 되기를 소망합니다. 다양한 생각과 의견과 감정과 경험을 표현할 때 공감해 주시면서, 때때로 생각의 이유도 물어 보시면서 아이들과 적극적 경청과 공감의 대화를 나누실 수 있으시기를 소망합니다.)
(Through this question, we want our children to realize that they will be able to handle difficult tasks more easily when two people are together than alone. This will be a time to think about whether they have such friends or people around them who could help them. I hope that you can empathize with your children when expressing various thoughts, opinions, feelings and experiences, and ask the reason for your thoughts from time to time.)
Q2 Everybody says that they have their own weary or heavy burden. What about you? In this season of the Quarantine, what about you? Don’t you have anything weary at school, at church life, with friends, or even at home? (struggle, heart-broken, pain, disappointment, etc.) Would you share your suffering which you would like to share with Jesus? 세상 사람들은 누구나 저마다의 아픔과 힘든 일이 있는 것 같습니다. 여러분들은 어떠신가요? 지금 Quarantine 사태를 지나면서 여러분들의 마음은 어떠신가요? 학교 생활이나 교회 생활이나 친구들이나 혹은 가정에서 힘든 일이 없으신가요? (갈등, 아픔, 실망, 등등) 혹 주님과 나누고 싶은 것이 있다면 어떤 것이 있을까요?
(이 질문을 통하여, 우리 자녀들이 나름 가지고 있는 힘든 일들과 마음의 짐들을 open 해 줄 수 있기를 소망하며, 또한 함께 하는 부모님들이나 친구들이 그들의 마음을 공감해 주는 시간을 가질 수 있기를 소망합니다. 다양한 생각과 의견과 감정과 경험을 표현할 때 공감해 주시기도 하고, 때때로 생각의 이유도 물어 보시면서 아이들과 적극적 경청과 공감의 대화를 나누실 수 있으시기를 소망합니다.)
(Through this question, I hope that our children will be able to open up their own hard work and burdens of their hearts. I also hope that parents and friends will have a time to empathize with their hearts. When expressing various thoughts, opinions, feelings and experiences, I hope that you will be able to empathize with the children, asking the reason for your thoughts from time to time, and to have an active listening and empathetic conversation with your children.)
