영과 진리로 예배하는 예배자를 찾으시는 하나님 아버지께서, 우리의 예배를 통해 올려 드리는 모든 감사와 찬양과 영광을 기쁘게 받으실 줄 믿습니다.
We believe that Heavenly Father, who is looking for worshipers who worship with spirit and truth, will gladly receive all the thanks, praise, and glory that we offer through our worship.
오늘은 2021년 여섯번째 주일입니다. 지난 주에는, 히브리서 4:14-5:10절 말씀을 통하여 예수님께서 영원한 대제사장으로 이 땅에 오셔서 대속의 은혜를 이루심에 대해서 묵상하며, 우리도 예수님의 연민의 삶, 기도의 삶, 그리고 순종의 삶에 대해 묵상해 보며 도전을 받았습니다. 이번 주에는 엡 2:1-10 를 통해서, 인간은 어떤 존재인지, 하나님의 큰 사랑은 그런 인간에게 어떤 은혜를 주셨는지, 인간이 그 은혜를 받는 Key 는 무엇인지 그리고 인간이 은혜를 받고 무엇을 하기를 원하시는지 함께 공부해보고 은혜 나누기를 소망합니다.
Today is the sixth Sunday in 2021. Last week, through Heb 4:14-5:10, we were challenged to the life of obedience, after meditating on the vicarious atonement of Jesus Christ who came down this world as an eternal High Priest for the ransom of the sins of all those who were chosen in Him and also His sympathy to us, the life of prayer, and His obedience. This week, we would like to think about why we were called for the salvation in grace by faith, after meditating on what kind of grace God prepared for human beings who cannot save by themselves due to their miserable existence and how human beings can receive that salvation.
- 에베소는 소아시아의 서쪽에 위치한 항구 도시로, 당시 로마, 알렉산드리 그리고 안디옥에 이어 네번째로 큰 도시 (인구 약 25만명) 였으며, 아데미 신전이 있었고, 로마 황제를 신으로 섬기고 있었습니다. 바울은 2차 전도 여행때, 그리스 남부 해안 도시를 돌아 에베소를 거쳐서 파송교회인 안디옥 교회로 돌아왔던 적이 있는데, 그때 고린도에서 만났던 브리스길라와 아굴라 부부를 에베소에 남겨 두었고, 그들이 남아서 복음을 전했던 것 같습니다. 그리고 바울이 3차 전도 여행을 떠나면서, 제일 먼저 에베소에 들러 회당에서 복음을 전하고 두란노 서원에서 성경을 가르치며 약 2년 반을 보내었는데 그때 에베소 교회를 세웠습니다. 오늘 함께 읽은 에베소서는 바울이 로마에서 가택연금이 되어 있는 동안 에베소 교회에 보낸 편지로, 하나님의 경륜을 따라 은혜로 구원함을 방은 성도들이 하나님의 교회가 되어 그 안에서 성장하여, 하나님을 따라 의와 진리의 거룩함으로 지으심을 받은 새사람을 입고, 그리스도 예수의 사랑 안에서 자라 사랑 가운데서 행하며, 성령의 충만함을 받아 피차 복종하며 더 나아가 하나님의 전신 갑주를 입고 영적 전투를 감당할 수 있기를 권면하고 있습니다.
- Ephesus was the fourth biggest city after Rome, Alexandria, and Antioch, with population of around 250,000, as a port city located in the west of Asia Minor. It had a temple of Artemis and they worshipped the Roman emperor as god. the Traditionally the author of the Epistle to the Hebrews had been believed to be Paul, but recently is argued it could be Banabas, Apollos, or Priscilla, etc, but it is well agreed that the recipient may be the Christians who has Jewish background and it was written around AD mid-60s. The main theme of the Hebrews is that Jesus is the mediator between God and human beings as the Son of God and eternal High priest, so that it is exhorted to have to trust in Him and stand firmly on the faith to overcome the challenges. Priscilla and Aquila whom Paul, in his second mission trip, met in Corinth and left there, when dropping by Ephesus while returning from Corinth to the church at Antioch. And in his third mission trip, Paul firstly visited Ephesus and had stayed for two and half years to share Gospel in the synagogue and teaching at the hall of Tyrannus, after founding a church there. The Epistle to the Ephesians was written by Paul around AD 60~61 when he was imprisoned in Rome to exhort the life of love and the life of obedience, being grown up in the love of Jesus after clothing new self of righteousness and truth, becoming the church after being saved according to the administration of God, and also being filled with the Holy Spirit and to exhort to fight the spiritual wars again the devil after putting on the full armor of God.
- 특히 오늘 본문 2:1-10 말씀은, 은혜로 받는 구원과 그 구원의 지향하는 바를 가장 잘 요약한 내용으로, 1-3절에서는 인간의 실존, 즉 하나님의 영광에 이르지 못하는 영적으로 죽어 있는 본질적 하나님의 진노 아래 있는 존재였는데, 4-7절에서는 하나님의 사랑과 은혜로 그리스도 안에서 살리심을 입은 존재가 되었음을 말한 후, 8-10절에서는 은혜로 받는 구원의 본질에 대해서 다시 정리를 한 후, 마지막으로 선행을 권면함으로 마무리하고 있습니다.
- Today’s text, which teaches what the salvation by grace is and what the purpose of that salvation, can be divided into three parts; VV.1-3 explains that we, Christians, were dead spiritually so that we all are under God’s wrath, i.e., could not reach the glory of God by ourselves and then vv. 4-7 explains that God made us alive by the love and grace of God in Jesus Christ so that vv.8-10 explains that we are exhorted to do good after confirming once again that we receive the salvation by grace.
- 오늘 본문 말씀을 통해서 몇가지 은혜를 나누기 원하는 데, 첫번째 인간의 전적 부패와 하나님의 큰 사랑에 대한 것입니다. 오늘의 성경 말씀을 인간의 상태에 대해서 너무도 분명하게 정의를 하고 있습니다. 인간은 죽어 있는 존재이며 육체 (σάρξ, sarx, Flesh, 죄성)의 욕심을 쫓는 본질상 하나님의 진노 아래 있으며 더 슬픈 것은 그 진노로 부터 스스로를 구원할 수 없는 존재라는 사실입니다. 신학적 용어로는 이것을 전적 부패 (Total Corruption) 혹은 전적 무능(Total Inability) 라고 말합니다. 따라서, 5절 말씀처럼 하나님의 그 큰 사랑으로 말미암아 우리를 살리시지 않으면 안되는 비참에 빠져 있는 존재이기에 구원은 전적인 하나님의 은혜인 것입니다. 따라서, 지난 주에 말씀드린 바와 예수님께서 우리의 육신의 모양을 입으시고 이땅에 오셔서 모든 유혹과 고난을 이기시고 죄가 없으신 분으로, 우리를 대신하여 십자가에 달려 돌아가심으로 구원의 길을 열어 주셨고, 우리는 주님께서 은혜로 주신 믿음을 통하여 칭의를 받아 구원을 받게 된 것입니다. 여기서 나오는 구원하는 믿음은 하나님에 대한 참된 지식 (Knowledge & Heart Response)과 전전인 신뢰(Trust) (하이델베르그 케터키즘 Q&A #21) 라고 정의할 수 있는데, 엡 2:8 절에 의하면, 믿음도 하나님의 선물이라고 합니다. 그리고 마지막으로 이런 전적인 하나님의 은혜의 구원은 우리로 하여금, 선한 일을 행하도록 인도한다고 말씀하고 있습니다.
- We would like to learn few points through today’s text: Firstly, we would like to know about the great love of God over the total depravity of human misery. Today’s Bible verse clearly declares about who human beings are, i.e., human beings are the spiritually dead beings who are under the wrath of God since they live in the passions of our flesh (σάρξ, sarx, sinful nature) and also do not have the ability to save by themselves sadly. We call this as the doctrine of total depravity or total inability theologically. Therefore, as v.5 says, the salvation is entirely the grace of God since we are in the misery that God has to save us through His grace only. That’s why, as we learned last week, Jesus had to take the likeness of our flesh, overcame all the temptation and sufferings, being made perfect, i.e., no sin, and died in the cross vicariously and then those who believe in Him can be saved after being justified, through true faith, as also God’s gift as Eph 2:8 says, which is sure knowledge and wholehearted trust (Q&A 21 of Heidelberg Catechism). And finally this grace of salvation by God results in doing good.

- I pray that His beloved our KPCM children, families and church may glorify God by doing good as the life of gratitude in response to the salvation given freely by grace.
Activity questions and thought behind
Q1 Sisters and brother, when you try to do something, you experienced that sometimes you can do it all by yourself, but in some cases, you can do partially, but not all, and in other cases, you experience that you can do nothing at all by yourself so that your mom or dad came to help you out. If you have any experiences, would you share those experiences that with your friends? 여러분들이 어떤 일을 하다보면, 여러분들이 할 수 있는 일도 있고, 어떤 부분은 할 수 있는데, 어떤 부분은 할 수 없는 경우도 있고, 때때로 어떤 일은 여러분들이 도저히 감당할 수 없는 경우도 있지요. 그런데 도저히 감당할 수 없는 일이 생겨 쩔쩔 매고 있을 때 엄마나 아빠가 나타나 도와 주신 적이 있는가요? 그런 경우가 있으면 친구들과 나누어 주시면 좋겠어요.
(이 질문을 통하여, 인간은 누구를 막론하고 모두 완벽한 인간은 없다는 사실을 우리 자녀들이 깨닫게 되기를 원합니다. 그들의 삶 속에서 일반적으로 경험하는 전적 부패 혹은 전적 무능의 교리를 발견하게 할 수 있었으면 좋겠습니다. 다양한 생각과 의견과 감정과 경험을 표현할 때 공감해 주시면서, 때때로 생각의 이유도 물어 보시면서 아이들과 적극적 경청과 공감의 대화를 나누실 수 있으시기를 소망합니다.)
(Through this question, I hope our children can understand that there are no human beings who are perfect and almighty so that they realize the concept of total depravity or total inability through their lives. When your children express diverse thoughts, opinions, emotions, or experiences, I hope you may empathize with them to enjoy the conversation of empathy through active listening, sometimes asking their thoughts behind.)
Q2 Today’s text says that Jesus became perfect, learning obedience through suffering. How do you understand this? Yes. it means that obedience is to obey God’s command when it is very difficult to obey, i.e., the obedience when it is really to obey is the true obedience which transforms us more and more into His image, rather the obedience when it is easy is small. If you have those experiences that you obeyed to God’s commands even though it is so hard to obey or how you could will to obey, could you share one of them with your friends? 위의 경험을 하고 난 후, 여러분들은 어떤 마음이 들었고 어떻게 행동을 하였습니까? 여러분들의 마음과 이야기를 친구들과 나누어 주셨으면 좋겠어요.

Q3 While we are going through the sixth week of 2021, I hope that while meditating on the free grace of God to save us, we may thank and also obey to live in God’s pleasing will to please God during this week. 오늘은 2021년 여섯번째 주일인데, 한 주간 동안 우리에게 베푸신 하나님의 값없이 은혜로 베풀어 주신 은혜를 생각하며, 하나님께 감사하며 또 하나님의 뜻에 순종하며 살아가는 복된 한 주간 되시기를 소망합니다.
