“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.” [James 1:2-3]
Three words are used in the descriptions of divine discipline: temptation, trial and trouble. Temptation is really evil arising from the Devil or born in the nature of man.
Trial is testing. It proves us, tests us, and makes us stronger when we submit to the trial and work together with God to overcome it.
The third word is trouble, which covers all the painful, grievous events of life.
It is enough to know that trouble in God’s hand becomes His agent to accomplish His gracious work concerning those who recognize Him in prayer, and who work together with Him.
“Thank You, God, that You use trouble in our lives to accomplish Your gracious work and that the testing of our faith develops perseverance. Amen.”
