영과 진리로 예배하는 예배자를 찾으시는 하나님 아버지께서, 우리의 예배를 통해 올려 드리는 모든 감사와 찬양과 영광을 기쁘게 받으실 줄 믿습니다.

오늘은 연중시기 스물세번째 주일입니다. 지난 주에는 주님을 따르는 과정에서 때때로 이해하기 어려운 말씀을 대하더라도 예수님께 나와서 씨름을 하는 과정을 통하여, 하나님께서 우리들의 하나님께 대한 지식도, 사랑도, 믿음도 성장시켜 주신다는 것을 배웠습니다. 이번 주에는 하나님께서 아브라함과 그의 후손들을 축복하시겠다는 언약을 맺으신 이후 계속되는 이스라엘의 우상 숭배와 악행으로 인하여 결국 나라가 망하고 바빌론으로 포로로 잡혀가게 되지만, 하나님께서는 아브라함에게 약속하신 은혜 언약을 근거로 그들을 다시 회복시켜 주시겠다고 약속하시면서, 이스라엘 백성에게 이를 위해 하나님께 구하라고 하시는데, 이러한 이스라엘의 역사와 하나님의 은혜를 살펴보면서 함께 은혜 받기를 소망합니다.

Today is the 23rd Sunday of the Ordinary Time. Last week, we learned that God will grow our knowledge, love, and faith while we are struggling and wrestling with the difficult words before Jesus in our journey with our Lord. This week, we would like to receive grace by looking at how God kept His covenant of grace and restored the Israelites who continued idolatry and evil deeds so that eventually they were destroyed and led to captivity in Babylon.

• 창세기에서 여호수아까지 성경을 살펴보면, 하나님께서는 죄로 말미암아 회손된 세상을 회복시키기 위하여, 아브라함을 택하시고, 그의 자손들을 애굽에 잠시 보내셔서 그의 구원을 이룰 큰 백성으로 만드신 후, 그들이 종살이 하던 애굽땅에서 해방시키셔서, 약속의 땅 가나안으로 인도하신 후, 거룩한 하나님의 백성으로 가나안 땅에서 어떻게 살아가야 할 지를 가르쳐 주시기 위하여 십계명과 율법들과 함께 각종 지혜의 말씀을 주시면서, 하나님과 이웃을 사랑하는 공의로운 백성으로 살아가게 하셨습니다.
• According to Genesis to Joshua, in order to restore His world which were corrupted by the sin, God chose Abraham and sent his descendants to Egypt for a while to make them a great nation to accomplish his salvation, and redeemed them from the land of Egypt where they were slaved. And God gave the Ten Commandments and the laws in addition to the wisdom literatures and let them live as His holy people in the promised land, the Canaan.

• 그런데, 가나안 땅에 정착한 이스라엘 백성들은 불행히도 하나님의 뜻대로 살기보다는 우상 숭배와 악행을 계속 일삼았으며, 하나님께서 계속 선지자들을 보내셔서 회개하고 하나님께로 돌아오라고 말씀하셨는데도 불구하고, 끝까지 하나님의 말씀을 듣지 않았습니다. 그래서, 북 이스라엘은 BC722년 앗수르제국에 의해 멸망 당하였고, 남 유다도 히스기야와 요시아 같은 몇몇 왕들이 일어나 우상을 타파하고 종교 개혁을 단행하여 백성들을 하나님께로 되돌리려 하였으나, 결국 히스기야의 아들 므낫세왕과 그의 손자 아몬의 악행들로 인하여 하나님의 진노를 사 시드기야 왕 때 신바빌로니아의 느부갓네살에 의해 BC 587년 멸망 당하여, 예루살렘 성이 무너지고 솔로몬 성전이 파괴되고 말았는데, 이는 예레미야 선지자가 예언한 바대로 였습니다.
• However, the Israelites who settled in the land of Canaan unfortunately continued to practice idolatry and evil doing rather than living according to God’s will even though God continued to send prophets to repent and return to God. They did not listen to God no matter what! Because of that, Northern Israel was destroyed by the Assyrian Empire in 722 BC, and also in the Southern Judah, even though several kings such as Hezekiah and Josiah arose, destroyed idols, reformed the people and tried to return the people to God, Manasseh and Amon bought God’s wrath because of their evil deeds and finally Nebuchadnezzar of Neo-Babylonia destroyed South Judah in 587 BC when Zedekiah was her king and the city of Jerusalem collapsed and the Temple of Solomon was destroyed, as the prophet Jeremiah prophesied.

• 그러한 와중에 많은 유대인들이 예레미야가 예언한 바대로, 바빌론으로 끌려갔는데, BC 538년 신바빌로니아의 뒤를 이어 패권을 차지한 바사(페르시아)의 고레스왕이 칙령을 내려, 다시 예루살렘으로 귀한하기까지 그들은 약70년 동안 포로 생활을 해야 했습니다.
• In the midst of that, many Jews were captive in Babylon, as Jeremiah prophesized, until 538 BC, when Cyrus of Persia, who took the hegemony after Neo-Babylonia, issued an edict, for about 70 years before returning to Jerusalem.

• 오늘 본문 에스겔서는, BC 605년부터 시작된 포로 유배이후 BC 597 에 이루어진 두번째 포로 유배때 바빌론으로 끌려간 에스겔(이름 뜻, “하나님께서 강하게 하여 주신다”) 선지가가 이스라엘 백성들과 함께 바빌론에 머물면서 BC 570년 그가 죽을 때까지 이스라엘 백성들에게 전한 하나님의 말씀이 기록되어 있습니다.
• Today’s text, the book of Ezekiel was written by the prophet Ezekiel (name meaning, “God strengthens me”), who was taken to Babylon during the second captivity exile in 597 BC, after the first exile in 605 BC, stayed with the Israelites in Babylon, and told the word of God to Israelites until his death in 570 BC.

• 에스겔서는 세부분으로 구성되어 있는데, 1-24장까지는 예루살렘 멸망전 이스라엘에 대한 예언으로 이스라엘 백성들의 우상숭배와 죄악 때문에 그들을 벌하실 것과 그들이 돌이켜 회개하기를 바라시는 하나님의 사랑의 말씀이 기록되어 있습니다. 그리고 25-32장은 암몬, 모압, 블레셋, 두로, 애굽 등 이방나라들을 심판하실 것이라는 말씀이 기록되어 있고, 33-48장에는 이스라엘 백성을 다시 회복시켜 주실 것과 새 언약에 대한 말씀이 기록되어 있습니다. 오늘 본문 36:16-38 말씀은 그 세번째 부분 중에서도 에스겔서의 핵심 메시지라고 할 수 있는데, 바빌론으로 포로로 끌려간 이스라엘 백성들을 다시 회복시켜 주실 것에 대한 말씀으로 예수님께서 오실 때 완성될 새 언약에 대한 예언의 말씀도 함께 Overlap 되어 있습니다.
• The book of Ezekiel is divided into three parts. Chapters 1-24 are prophecies against the Israelites before the destruction of Jerusalem and record the words of God that He will punish them for their idolatry and iniquity but want them to turn back to God to repent. In chapters 25-32, it talks about He will judge the neighboring countries such as the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Philistines, the Tyrians, and the Egyptians. In chapters 33-48, it was written that He will restore the Israelites including the new covenant. Today’s text 36:16-38 are the key verses which contains the core message of the book of Ezekiel among the third part. It is a prophecy about the new covenant that will be fulfilled when Jesus comes, as it speaks about the restoration of the Israelites who were taken captive to Babylon.

• 특히 오늘 본문 36:16-38절 말씀은, 비록 이스라엘이 우상 숭배와 죄악으로 말미암아 바빌론에서 포로 생활을 했지만 (19), 여호와께서는 하나님의 이름을 위하여 그들을 약속의 땅 가나안으로 다시 돌아오게 하실 것이며 (24), 그들을 정결케 하시고, 또 변화시키셔서 하나님의 말씀을 다시 지킬 수 있도록 해 주신 후(25-28) 그들의 하나님이 되실 것이란 말씀 뿐만 아니라, 그 땅을 소생시키고, 백성들을 다시 번성케 하여 주심(29-38)으로 주변 나라들이 여호와께서 행하셨음을 알게 하실 것이라고 기록되어 있습니다.
• In particular, today’s text, 36:16-38 says that although Israel lived captivity in Babylon due to their idolatry and iniquity (19), the LORD would bring them back to Canaan, the Promised Land for the sake of God’s name (24), and purified and transformed them so that they could keep the Word of God again (25-28) and He will not only be their God, but also revive the land and prosper the people again. By doing this (29-38), the neighboring nations will know that the LORD has done it.

• 오늘 본문을 통해서 우리가 은혜 받기를 원하는 것은, 첫째, 비록 이스라엘 백성들이 그들의 죄 때문에 하나님께 징계를 받지만, 그러나 하나님께서는 그의 영원한 은혜 언약을 기억하셔서 다시 회복해 주시는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 그러므로, 우리 아브라함의 믿음의 후손들도 어떠한 상황, 심지어 우리의 죄 때문에 잠시 징계를 받는 그 순간에도 하나님께서는 변치않으시고 그의 은혜 언약을 지켜 주실 것을 믿고, 소망으로 견뎌야 합니다. 둘째, 하나님께서 사랑하시는 그의 백성들에 대한 징계는 일반 징벌과는 달리 백성들의 마음과 행위를 돌이켜 다시 하나님께로 돌아오게 해 줄 뿐 만 아니라, 그 과정을 통하여 오히려 하나님과의 관계가 더 깊어지게 한다는 사실을 볼 수 있습니다. 그리고, 세번째, 하나님께서는 영원한 은혜 언약을 지켜주실 것임에도 불구하고 우리가 그것들을 기도함으로 받아야 한다(37)고 말씀하셨습니다. 이것은, 기도를 통하여 우리의 처지, 즉, 우리에게는 선한 것이 없고 또한 선을 행할 수 있는 능력도 없는(롬 7:18) 바, 모든 좋은 것은 그분에게 온다(약 1:17)는 사실을 알게 되며, 또한 기도를 통하여 받을 때 또한 그것을 주신 이가 하나님이심을 더 확실하게 깨닫고(대하 33:12-13) 하나님께 감사하게 되며 (시 66:20) 또한 기도하는 과정에서 우리가 하나님께 더 가까이 나갈 수 있게 되기(신 4:7) 때문입니다.
• Through today’s text, I hope that we would like to learn three lessons. First, although the Israelites were disciplined by God for their sins, we can see that God remembered His eternal covenant of grace and restored them. Therefore, we, Abraham’s descendants of faith, must endure with hope, believing that God will keep his covenant of grace and restore us, even at the moment when we are temporarily disciplined for our sins. Second, the discipline of God’s beloved people, unlike general punishment, not only turns the hearts and actions of the people back to God, but also deepens the relationship with God through the process. And, thirdly, God said that even though He will keep his covenant of grace, we must receive them through prayer (37). Through prayer, we learn that we have nothing good and no power to do goods (Rom. 7:18), and that all good things come from Him (James 1:17). Also, when we receive them through prayer, we realize more clearly that it is God who gives (2 Chron. 33:12-13) and we give thanks to God (Psalm 66:20), and finally we can draw closer to God by the  prayer (Deut 4:7).

• 기도하옵기는 우리 자녀들과 가정들과 교회가, 하나님의 크신 은혜 언약 안에서 평강을 얻고, 고난 가운데서도 성숙해지는 기쁨을 누리며, 늘 기도하는 가운데 하나님께서 예비하신 모든 축복을 받아 누릴 뿐 만 아니라, 하나님을 더 알고 더 사랑하며 하나님과 더욱 친밀한 교제를 누릴 수 있기를 소망합니다.
• I pray that our children, families, and churches may not only receive peace in God’s great covenant of grace and enjoy the joy of maturing in the midst of suffering, but also receive all the blessings God has prepared in prayer and know more, love God more, and enjoy the intimate fellowship with God.

(Through this question, our children can confirm that God is the One who hears and answers to our prayer and meets us in our prayer, by reminding their experience of praying to God in their daily lives and receiving answers so that they would be thankful to God. I hope that you will be able to empathize with your children when expressing various thoughts, opinions, feelings and experiences, and ask the reason for your thoughts from time to time.)
