오늘은 주님 오심을 기다리는 대강절 첫째 주일입니다. 지난 주에는, 불의가 가득한 시대에 하나님의 구원을 기다리던 하박국 선지서를 통하여, 오늘 우리가 겪고 있는 판데믹과 사회 혼란 속에서 우리가 어떻게 살아야 할지를 고민해 보면서 추수감사주일을 보냈습니다. 이번 주는 대강절 첫주인데, 새롭게 2020-2021 교회력을 시작하면서, 시편 27편을 묵상해 봄으로, 어떤 마음 자세로 주님 오심을 기다릴 지를 함께 생각해 보기를 소망합니다.
Today is the first Sunday of the Advent, waiting for the Lord to come! Last week we spent Thanksgiving Sunday thinking about how we should live amid the pandemic and social turmoil we are experiencing today through the Book of Habakkuk waiting for God’s salvation in the era full of injustice. This week is the first week of Advent! As we begin the new church calendar 2020-2021, reflecting on Psalm 27, we would like to think about what kind of attitude we should have while we wait for the Lord’s coming.
- 시편 27편은 다윗이 위기에 처한 상황에서 지은 것으로, 혹자는 사울왕이 그를 죽이려고 했을 때, 광야에서 쫓겨 다니면서 기록했을 것이라고도 하고 혹자는 그의 아들 압살롬이 반란을 일으켰을 때 피신 생활을 하면서 기록 했을 것이라고도 하는데, 이 두 가지가 다 가능성이 있어 보입니다. 시편 27편에서 다윗은 악인들이 그를 공격하고 또 군대가 그를 대적하여 진을 친 상황에서도 두려워하지 않고 태연하다고 고백하며 믿음을 가지고 강하고 담대하게 여호와를 기다릴 것이라고 고백하고 있습니다.
- Psalm 27 was written by David, when he was in crisis. Some said that he wrote it, while he was wandering in the wilderness when King Saul tried to kill him; or some said that he may have written it while living in refuge when his son Absalom rebelled. Both seem likely. In Psalm 27, David confessed that he would wait for the LORD with faith, being strong and courage; even when the wicked attack him and the army encamps against him.
- 본 시편은 Confidence (확신) 와 Seek (여호와를 찾음) 이라는 두 주제를 중심으로Confidence (vv.1-3) / Seeking (vv.4-6) // Seeking (vv.7-12) / Confidence (vv.13-14) 의 대칭병행순환 (Chiasm) 구조를 형성하고 있는데, 세부적으로 보면,
- This psalm focuses on two themes – Confidence and Seeking, in the Chiastic literary structure; Confidence (vv.1-3) / Seeking (vv.4-6) // Seeking (vv.7-12) / Confidence (vv.13-14). In details, it has the following Chiastic structure;
A v.1 여호와는 나의 빛, 구원, 능력 (The LORD is my strength)
B vv.2-3 나의 대적들 (My adversaries)
C v.4 여호와를 찾음 (I seek)
D vv.5-6f 여호와께서 나를 세우심 (He will lift me up)
E vv.6r-7 세가지 간청 Three positive petitions
F v.8 여호와의 임재를 찾음 Face is sought
E’ v.9 세가지 간청 (Three negative petitions)
D’ v.10 여호와는 나를 영접하심 (The LORD will take me up)
C’ v.11 주의 도를 가르치고 인도하소서 (Teach me, Lead me)
B’ v.12 나의 대적들 (my Adversaries)
A’ vv.13-14 담대하게 여호와를 기다리라 (Be strong and Wait the LORD)
는 구조로 되어 있어, 중심 주제인 여호와에 대한 믿음의 고백과 확신, 그리고 여호와를 찾음, 즉 여호와의 임재를 구하는 다윗의 마음이 잘 표현되어 있음을 알 수 있습니다.
The central theme is the search for the LORD with the confession and assurance of faith in the LORD and it expresses well David’s desire for His presence.
- 특히 다음 단어들이 전반부 (vv.1-6) 와 후반부 (vv.7-14) 에 있는 것, 즉 a) 구원 salvation (ישׁע), vv.1, 9, b) 생명 life (חַי), vv.1, 12, c) 찾다 seek (בקשׁ), vv.4, 8과, 또한 전반부 1“여호와는 나의 빛, 나의 구원, 내 생명의 능력”라는 고백과, 후반부 그의 기도들, 즉 구원의 하나님되신 여호와의 얼굴(임재)를 찾는 기도 (vv.7-10), 생명을 보전해 주실 것을 구하는 기도 (v.12), 그리고 주의 도를 가르치시고 인도해 달라는 기도 (v.11) 가 서로 주제적으로 연결되어 있는 점을 유념하여 묵상하면서, 전체적인 맥락을 살펴 보면, 전반부에서 다윗은 여호와 안에서 그의 확신과 믿음을 표현 (v.1)한 다음, vv.2-3 에서 하나님께서 그의 대적들로 부터 지켜 주시기에 그는 두려워하지 않고 태연할 수 있다고 노래한 후, vv.4-6 에서 여호와의 전, 즉 여호와의 임재 안에서 안전을 누리며 하나님의 아름다움 (Beauty or kindness) 를 바라보며 즐거운 제사를 드리며 여호와를 찬송할 것이라고 노래합니다. 그리고 이어지는 후반부에서는, 그러한 확신 속에서 다윗은 하나님의 임재 (여호와의 얼굴)을 구하고 (vv.7-10), 주의 도를 가르쳐 주시고 인도해 주시기를 구하며 (v.11) 또한 그의 생명을 보호해 주시기(v.12)를 간구한 다음, vv.13-14 에서 확신과 믿음으로 강하고 담대하게 여호와를 기다릴 것을 권면하고 있습니다.
- In particular, the fact that the following words are duplicated in the first half (vv.1-6) and the second half (vv.7-14), i.e., a) salvation (ישׁע), vv.1, 9, b) life (חַי), vv.1, 12, c) seek seek (בקשׁ), vv.4, 8, and also the fact that the themes in the v.1 of the first part “The LORD is my light, my salvation, the power of my life” are connected in the second half that his prayer for seeking the face (presence) of the LORD (vv.7-10), prayer for preserving life (v.12), and prayer for teaching and guiding the Lord’s way (v.11) explains us the oneness of the Psalm 27. Looking at the overall context while meditating on the thematic connection of the first and second part, David expressed faith in the LORD (v.1), and then in vv.2-3, he said that he is fearless and confident because the LORD will save him from his enemies. And then in vv.4-6, he sang that he will praise the LORD by offering joyful sacrifices, enjoying safety in the LORD’s house, in his presence, looking to the beauty (kindness) of God. And in the second part, in such a conviction, David seeks the presence of God (the face of the LORD) (vv.7-10), asks for the will and guidance of the LORD (v.11), and after asking for the protection of his life (v.12), in the vv.13-14 he exhort to wait for the LORD with confidence and faith, being strong and courageous.
- 불안과 두려움의 때를 살고 있는 우리가 오늘 시편 27을 통해서, 몇가지 배우기를 소망하는데, 첫번째, 다윗은 어려울 때에, 구원의 근원되시는 여호와의 얼굴을 찾았다는 점입니다. 왜냐하면, 구원의 능력이 되시는 하나님의 임재는 우리로 모든 어려움을 극복하게 하여 줄 뿐 만 아니라, 또한 두려원하지 않고 태연한 마음을 가지게 해 주기 때문입니다. 두번째, 다윗은 어려울 때에, 하나님의 도, 즉 하나님의 지혜를 구했습니다. 왜냐하면, 불안하고 어려울 때 일수록 바른 생각과 정확한 판단(분별)은 우리의 삶의 태도와 자세와 모양을 결정해 주기 때문입니다.
- While we are living in times of anxiety and fears, I hope we will learn a few things through Psalm 27 today. First, David was seeking for the face of the LORD, i.e., the presence of the LORD, as the source of salvation, in his difficult times, because God’s presence as the source of salvation, not only allows us to overcome all difficulties, but also allows us to have a calm mind without fear. Secondly, David asked for God’s will and God’s wisdom during his difficult times, because the sound thinking and clear discernment can provide the correct attitude, sound posture and healthy life style, when we are anxious and difficult.
- 그리고 한가지 더 헤아려 보기를 원하는 것은 시편 27편을 노래한 다윗의 여호와 관, 즉 여호와 하나님을 어떤 분으로 고백하는가 하는 점입니다. 이를 위해, 본 시편의 배경이 되는 두가지 사건을 살펴보면, 첫번째 사울을 피하여 광야에서 도망하는 중에도, 사울을 죽일 수 있는 기회가 있었는데도, 두번이나 그를 살려 주면서, 여호와께서 사울과 다윗 사이에 재판장이 되어 주실 것 (삼상 24:15)과 함께 여호와의 뜻이 어디있는지 물었던 (삼상26:19) 모습을 볼 수 있으며, 또 그가 말년에 아들 압살롬의 반역으로 쫓기는 신세 중에도, 벤냐민지파 사람 시므이가 그를 저주하자, 여호와께서 모든 것을 감찰하시고, 선으로 갚아 주시기를 구했던 (삼하 16:11-12) 다윗의 모습을 살펴보면, 다윗은 철저히 여호와의 주권을 인정하고, 모든 왕권과 세상의 모든 일들이 주로 말미암는다는 것을 철저하게 고백하는 신앙을 가지고 있었음을 알 수 있습니다. 그랬기에, 어떤 어려운 상황이 닥쳐오더라도, 항상 하나님의 임재와 뜻을 먼저 구하면서, 하나님의 때와 구원을 기다리며, 두려워하지 않고, 강하고 담대하게 여호와를 기다릴 수 있었던 것 같습니다.
- One more thing I want us to look at is who the LORD is to David, while he sang the Psalm 27. In order to understand it, we would like to look at two possible contexts of the Psalm 27. First, while fleeing from Saul and wandering in the wilderness, David had two opportunities to kill Saul, but he saved him and asked where the will of the LORD was (1 Sam 26:19), asking the LORD will judge between Saul and David (1 Sam 24:15). And also, while he was chased by his son Absalom, in his last years, when Shimei of the Benjaminite cursed him, he asked the LORD to inspect everything and to return with good things (2 Sam 16:11-12). From these facts, we can see that David had the faith to acknowledge the Sovereignty of the LORD and he confessed that God is in control of all kingships and all things in the world. Because of that, no matter what difficult situation came, he was always able to seek for God’s presence and His will first, and then wait for God’s time and salvation, being strong and courageous without fear.
- 오늘과 같은 어려운 상황을 지나면서, 하나님의 보호하심 가운데 어느듯 시간이 흘러 백신 개발과 치료제 승인 소식도 들려 오고 있는 이 때에, 오늘 시편 27편의 교훈이 우리에게 큰 힘이 되기를 소망합니다. 우리도 다윗처럼 기도하는 가운데, 주님의 임재와 뜻과 말씀을 구하면서, 하나님의 주권을 인정하고 두려움을 쫓아내고, 태연하고 강하고 담대하게 여호와를 기다리는 우리 모든 어린이들과 가정들과 교회가 되기를 기도합니다.
- I pray that today’s lesson from Psalm 27 will be of great help to us as we pass through the difficult situation, as the time has passed and news of vaccine development and treatment approval is being heard. As David prayed, I hope we may pray for His presence, will, and the word of the Lord and we may acknowledge God’s Sovereignty. After casting out fear, I pray that our children, adults, families and church may wait for the LORD, with confidence, yet strong and courageous.

Q1 I wonder how we can feel when other people insult and make us hard or our enemy arises a war to defeat us, for example, when your friends are bullying you or make you hard with undue reason? 사람들이 둘러써서 여러분들을 핍박하고 또 적군들이 여러분들을 무너뜨리려고 진을 치는 상황이 되면, 예를 들어 친구들이 여러분들을 왕따시키고 여러가지 부당한 이유로 여러분들을 힘들게 한다면, 여러분들은 어떤 마음이 들겠습니까?
(이 질문을 통해, 우리 아이들이 어려운 상황이 벌어지면, 생길 수 있는 그런 감정들과 생각들을 나누면서, 다양한 생각과 감정이 일어날 수 있음을 배우고, 또 그 감정에 공감해 주는 과정을 통해서, 감정에 대한 이해와 공감에 대해 이해할 수 있기를 소망합니다. 다양한 생각과 의견과 감정과 경험을 표현할 때 공감해 주시면서, 때때로 생각의 이유도 물어 보시면서 아이들과 적극적 경청과 공감의 대화를 나누실 수 있으시기를 소망합니다.)
(Through this question, while our children can share their feelings and thoughts which may occur in their difficult times, they can understand their emotions and thoughts. And through the process of empathizing with them, I hope that they will be able to understand their emotions and also to learn how to empathize. When expressing a variety of thoughts, opinions, feelings, and experiences, I hope that you will be able to communicate with your children by actively listening and empathizing while asking the reason for their thoughts)
Q2 As you see that David, in Psalm 27, confessed that he was fearless and confident even when evildoers assail him and an army encamp against him, could you explain how David could do that? You may share your learnings from today’s Bible verses or sermon. 오늘 시편 27편을 보면 다윗은 사람들이 그를 힘들게 하고 심지어 대적들리 전쟁을 일으키려고 그의 앞에 진을 치는 두렵고 떨리는 상황에서도 두려워하지 않고 태연하다고 고백했는데, 오늘 설교 말씀에서는 어떻게 다윗이 그렇게 할 수 있었다고 말씀하고 있는가요? 여러분들이 배우고 생각한 것을 나누어 주시면 좋겠습니다.

(Through this question, as David lived confidently and courageously even in the face of difficulties, seeking the presence of the LORD God, gaining strength through the Word of the LORD, seeking the LORD, and waiting in faith for the time that God will finally deliver, I hope that this will be a time for our children to deepen the lesson from David.)

I hope, as David in Psalm 27, exhorts himself to be strong and courageous and wait the LORD in Faith, you meditate on the Sovereignty of the LORD this week. 오늘부터, 크리스마스까지 네번의 주일을 대강절로 지키게 될 것인데, 시편27에서 다윗이 하나님의 주권을 인정하고 믿음을 가지고 강하고 담대하게 기다렸던 것처럼, 이번 한 주간 하나님의 주권을 묵상하는 시간이 되기를 소망합니다.
