영과 진리로 예배하는 예배자를 찾으시는 하나님 아버지께서, 우리의 예배를 통해 올려 드리는 모든 감사와 찬양과 영광을 기쁘게 받으실 줄 믿습니다.
We believe that Heavenly Father, who is looking for worshipers who worship with spirit and truth, will gladly receive all the thanks, praise, and glory that we offer through our worship.
오늘은 연중시기 스물여섯번째 주일입니다. 지난 주에는 시편 107편을 통하여, 지속적으로 우상숭배와 죄를 지음으로 나라가 망하고 포로가 되어 바빌론으로 끌려갔지만 예언된 70년이 지나자 신실하신 하나님께서는 언약을 기억하시고 이스라엘 백성들을 용서하시고 다시 예루살렘으로 돌아오게 하시는 하나님의 선하심과 인자하심에 대해 살펴 보았습니다. 이번 주에는 하박국 말씀을 통해서, 불의가 가득한 시대에 하나님의 구원을 기다리며 살아야 했던 하박국 선지서를 통하여, 오늘 우리가 겪고 있는 판데믹과 사회 불의와 혼란 속에서 우리가 어떻게 살아야할 지를 고민해 보면서 특별히 이 상황에서 맞는 추수감사절을 어떻게 보내야 할 지 생각해 보는 시간이 되기를 소망합니다.
Today is the 26th Sunday of the Ordinary Time. Last week, through Psalm 107, we looked at the goodness and covenantal faithfulness of God that when the nation was destroyed and they were taken captive to Babylon by their continuous idolatry and sin, God remembered the covenant and forgiven the Israelites after the foretold 70 years passed and brought them back to Jerusalem again. This week, through the Book of Habakkuk, the prophet, who had to live while awaiting for God’s salvation in an age of injustice, I hope we can ponder how we should live in the midst of pandemic, social injustice, and confusion that we are experiencing today. I hope this will give you a time to think about what and how we can thank God in this Thanksgiving Sunday.
- 하박국은 북이스라엘 패망(BC722)후, 남유다 패망(BC587)전 시대에 유다에서 활동했던 선지자로, 그의 이름은 “포용하다”의 뜻이 있습니다. 하박국 선지서의 특징은 다른 선지서들과 다른 스타일을 가지고 있는데, 다른 선지서들이 하나님의 메시지를 받아서 청중들에게 선포하는 형식을 취하고 있지만, 하박국 선지서는 하나님께 질문을 던지고 하나님께서 이 질문에 대답하시는 형식으로 되어 있습니다.
- Habakkuk is a prophet who was active in Judah after the fall of northern Israel (722 BC) and before the fall of southern Judah (587 BC); and his name means “to embrace.” The Book of Habakkuk has a different style from other Books of prophets. Although other prophets took the form of receiving God’s message and proclaimed it to the audience, the Book of Habakkuk has a style that when Habakkuk asks a question, God answers the question.
- 하박국은 1장에서 남유다 왕국에서 일어나는 각종 강포와 패역에 대해 정의 (Righteousness)가 어디있느냐며 하나님께 의문을 제기하였습니다. (1:2-4) 그러자 하나님께서는 바빌론 (Neo-Babylonia) 를 일으켜 앗시리아와 유다를 심판함으로 불의를 종식시킬 것이라고 대답하셨습니다. (1:5-11) 그러자 하박국은 악한 민족 (바빌로니아)를 통해 의로운 사람까지도 죽게 하는 것이 옳은 것인지 하나님께 질문하였고 (1:13, 17) 이에 하나님께서는 2장에서 바빌론도 결국 하나님의 심판을 받게 될 것(BC 539 페르시아에 의해 멸망)인 바, 하나님의 구원이 이를 때까지 오직 의인은 믿음으로 살아야 하며 (2:4) 하나님의 영광이 가득한 날 (2:14)이 올 때까지 신실하게 기다릴 것을 요구 하셨습니다. 그러자 하박국은 3장에서, 하나님의 주권을 고백하며 끝을 맺습니다.
- In Chapter 1, Habakkuk raised a question to God, asking where is the righteousness amongst various violence and rebellion in the southern kingdom of Judah(1:2-4). Then God replied that He would raise up Neo-Babylonia and put an end to injustice by judging Assyria and Judah (1:5-11). Then Habakkuk asked God whether it was right to kill even the righteous through an evil nation (Babylonia) (1:13,17) So, in Chapter 2, God answered Babylon would be judged by God too. (Babylon was perished by Persia 539 BC). Therefore, until God’s salvation arrives, the righteous must live by faith (2:4) and wait faithfully until the day of God’s full glory (2:14). Then Habakkuk responded in Chapter 3 by confessing God’s sovereignty.
- 오늘 하박국 선지자가 활동했던 시대를 보면, 강포와 패역이 가득하고 율법이 해이하여 정의가 시행되지 못하는 상황 (1:3,4) 일 뿐 만 아니라, 앗시리아, 이집트, 바벨론 등 대 제국들간의 전쟁의 소용돌이 (1:10,11) 속에서 역병도 함께 일어난 (3:5) 상황인 것 같습니다. 돌아보면 우리의 상황 또한 만만치 않은 것 같습니다. 오랜 판데믹으로 사람들은 두려움과 불안에 떨고 있고, “Black Lives Matter” 운동 등 사회 부정의를 경험하면서 소망 가운데 치러진 대선이 오히려 시민을 둘로 갈라지게 해 더욱 사회적 불안이 가중되는 가운데, Flu 시즌과 함께 코로나 바이러스의 2차 Wave로 인한 감염의 확산일로에 있습니다. 이러한 엄중한 시절에 하박국 선지서를 통한 하나님의 메시지, 즉, 하나님의 구원이 이를 때까지 의인은 오직 믿음으로 살아야 한다는 말씀과 더불어 하나님의 영광이 가득한 날이 올 때까지 신실하게 기다려야 한다는 말씀은 오늘을 사는 우리들 크리스천들에게도 아멘으로 받아야 할 말씀인 줄로 믿습니다.
- When we look at the times where the prophet Habakkuk was active, we can see it was not only a situation where justice was not enforced due to violence and rebellion and the law was weak (1:3,4), but also it seems that the plague also occurred (3:5) amid the whirlwind of wars (1:10,11) between the great empires such as Assyria, Egypt, and Babylon. So, it seems we are living in very similar situation that due to a long pandemic, people are trembling with fear and anxiety, and the presidential election which was held in hopes, rather results in divided citizens into tow, increasing social anxiety, in addition to the social injustice issue such as “Black lives matter” movement and even the infection is spreading due to the secondary wave of the virus. In these difficult situation, God’s message through the Prophet of Habakkuk exhorts us too that the righteous must live by faith only until God’s salvation arrives, and that we must wait faithfully until the day full of God’s glory comes.
- 그리고 하박국 선지자는 “여호와여 주는 주의 일을 이 수년 내에 부흥하게 하소서 (3:2)”라며 기도할 뿐 만 아니라, “비록 무화과나무가 무성하지 못하며 포도나무에 열매가 없으며 감람나무에 소출이 없으며 밭에 먹을 것이 없으며 우리에 양이 없으며 외양간에 소가 없을지라도 나는 여호와로 말미암아 즐거워하며 나의 구원의 하나님으로 말미암아 기뻐하리로다 (3:17-18)”며 주의 백성을 구원하시는 하나님을 신뢰하며 “주 여호와는 나의 힘이시라 나의 발을 사슴과 같게 하사 나를 나의 높은 곳으로 다니게 하시리로다 (3:19)”는 고백으로 선지서를 마무리 하고 있습니다.
- And the prophet Habakkuk not only prayed, “The LORD, let your work revive within these years (3:2)”, but also prayed, “Although the fig tree is not lush, the vine has no fruit, and the olive tree has nothing, no food in the field, no sheep in the cage, no cows in the barn, but I will rejoice in the LORD and rejoice in the God of my salvation (3:17-18).” And then trusting in God who saves His people, the prophet concluded with a confession “The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he will make my feet like a deer, and he enables me to tread on the heights (3:19).”
- 그러므로, 기도하옵기는 오늘을 사는 우리 크리스천들도 지난 시절을 돌아보면서 우리의 일상들에서 감사의 조건들을 발견하게 해 주실 뿐 만 아니라, 종국에는 하나님께서 반드시 의인들을 구원해 주실 것을 믿으며 비록 아직 손에 잡힌 바는 없지만, 무화과 나무와 포도나무와 감람나무에서 풍성한 소출을 거두게 해 주실 것과 우리에 양과 소가 가득하게 될 날을 반드시 주실 줄로 믿고 오늘 추수감사절 주일날에 오히려 미리하는 감사의 찬양을 올려 드릴 수 있기를 소망합니다.
- Therefore, I pray that our Christians living today not only find the gratitude in our daily lives as they look back on the past, but also give thanks to God in advance, since, in the end, God will surely save the righteous, although we have not yet been held in hand, and He will give us a day with full of sheep and cows and makes us reap abundance from the figs, vines, and olives. I hope we will be able to give a praise of thanksgiving in advance today on Thanksgiving Sunday in faith!
- 기도하옵기는 이 어려움 속에서도 감사를 발견할 뿐 만 아니라, 앞으로 반드시 주실 감사를 미리 감사하며, 오늘의 위기 가운데서도 간증거리를 찾아 준비하는 그리고 우리의 힘이 되신 여호와 그리고 반드시 우리를 높은 곳에 다니게 하실 하나님을 찬양하는 우리 모든 어린이들과 믿음의 가정들과 교회가 되기를 소망합니다.
- I pray that we may not only find gratitude in the midst of these difficult times, but also give thanks in advance for the gratitude He will surely give in the future so that all of our children, families of faith, and churches will praise our Lord!

Q2 As Habakkuk asked questions to God when he felt that God keep silence against the situation the wicked surround and afflict the righteous, I wonder if you have any questions to God while you have been going through the Pandemic? If yes, would you share them? 하박국 선지가가 하나님께서 침묵하시는 것 같은 불의가 가득한 시절을 지내면서 그리고 악인들이 의인들을 힘들게 하는 상황을 보면서, 하나님께 질문하였던 것처럼, 혹시 여러분들도 이 판데믹 기간을 지나면서, 하나님께 의문과 질문을 가진 것이 있나요? 함께 나누어 주실 수 있을까요?
