영과 진리로 예배하는 예배자를 찾으시는 하나님 아버지께서, 우리의 예배를 통해 올려 드리는 모든 감사와 찬양과 영광을 기쁘게 받으실 줄 믿습니다.
We believe that Heavenly Father, who is looking for worshipers who worship with spirit and truth, will gladly receive all the thanks, praise, and glory that we offer through our worship.
오늘은 주님 오심을 기다리는 대강절 셋째 주일입니다. 지난 주에는, 시편 29편을 통하여 인간 역사도 자연도 주관하시는 하나님의 주권과 능력 아래에서 그의 백성으로써 우리가 누리는 평강을 묵상하면서 보냈고, 이번 주에는 로마서 5:1-11 을 통하여 하나님의 은혜 위에 서서 오늘 하나님안에서 누리고 즐거워하는 삶에 대해서 생각해 보고 은혜 나눌 수 있기를 소망합니다.
Today is the third Sunday of Advent, waiting for the Lord to come! Last week, through Psalm 29, we spent enjoying His peace as His people, under the sovereignty and power of God who controls both human history and nature. This week, through Romans 5:1-11, I hope that we can rejoice in God, while meditating on His coming.
- 로마서는 바울이 AD57년경 3차전도여행중 고린도에 머물면서 로마교회에 보낸 서신서로 이방인들과 유대인들로 구성된 로마 교회의 신학적 혼란을 해결하기 위하여 복음과 구원이후의 삶에 대해 논리정연하게 신학적으로 설명한 성경책입니다. 루터는 그의 로마서 서문에서 “로마서는 신약중 가장 중요한 성경이며 가장 순수한 복음이다… 아무리 읽고 묵상해도 부족함이 없으며, 읽으면 읽을 수록 더 큰 기쁨을 주며 더 깊은 맛을 맛볼 수 있게 해준다”라고 했으며, 칼빈은 그의 로마서 주석에서 “로마서를 이해하는 사람은 전체 성경을 이해할 수 있는 Key 를 얻은 것과 같다”라고 말했습니다. 영국의 개혁주의자이자 영어 성경 번역의 아버지라 불리는 윌리엄 틴데일은 그의 로마서 서문에서 “로마서는 신약의 가장 중요하며 뛰어난 성경으로, 가장 순수한 복음으로… 성경 전체의 빛이요 길이다”라고 했습니다.
- The book of Romans is a letter, sent by Paul to the Roman church, while staying in Corinth during the third mission trip, around AD 57, in order to settle the theological error of the church. It is a theological Book in which the gospel and life after salvation is explained very logically. Luther says in the preface to the Book of Romans that it is “The most important part of the New Testament and the very purest Gospel … It can never be read or meditated on too much or too well, and the more it is handled the more delightful it becomes, and the better it tastes,” while John Calvin says in his commentaries on the Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Romans that “When anyone understand his Epistle, he has a passage opened to him to the understanding of the whole Scripture.” And also William Tyndale, British Reformer and the father of English Bible Translator says in the prologue to Romans says that “Romans is the principal and most excellent part of the New Testament, and most pure Euangelion (good news), … and also a light and a way in unto the whole Scripture.”
- 로마서의 전체 구성을 보면, 1-2장은 죄와 심판을 설명하면서 구원의 필요성에 대해 설명하고 있고, 3-5장은 칭의에 대해, 6-8장은 성화에 대해, 9-11장은 예정에 대해, 그리고 12-16장은 구원받은 사람들의 거룩하고 선하며 사랑하며 사는 삶에 대하여 논하고 있습니다.
- Looking at the overall composition of Romans, chapters 1-2 describe the necessity of salvation after explaining sin and its judgment, chapters 3-5 about justification, chapters 6-8 about sanctification, and chapters 9-11 discuss predestination, and chapters 12-16 discuss the holy, good, and loving lives of the saved.
- 오늘 본문 5장은 3-5장의 칭의에 관한 논의를 마무리 하면서, 동시에 성화에 대한 논의를 시작하는 교량 역할을 하는데, 특별히 칭의의 유익 (Benefits) 에 대해 설명하고 있습니다. 이신칭의 즉 믿음으로 말미암아 얻는 칭의는 하나님과의 ‘화해 (reconciliation)’를 이루게 하며, 예수님 안에 있는 모든 은혜를 누리는 자리에 서게 하며, 하나님의 영광을 소망하는 기쁨을 준다고 말하고 있습니다. 그런데 이 소망은 고난 가운데 인내하며, 연단을 통하여, 주님의 성품을 덧입게 되는 과정에서 생기게 되기에, 그리스도인들은 고난 중에도 오히려 기뻐하게 된다고 말하고 있습니다. 그리고 이 하나님 안에 있는 소망은 절대 그리스도인들을 실망시키지 않는데, 이 소망은 우리에게 부어진 하나님의 사랑, 즉 우리가 아직 죄인되었을 때에 우리를 사랑하신 그 크신 사랑으로 확증해 주신 것이며, 또한 그 보증으로 우리에게 주신 성령으로 말미암아 그 사랑이 우리에게 부어졌기 때문입니다. 그러므로, 우리 그리스도인들은 믿음을 통하여 그리스도 안에서 의롭다 칭함을 받고 하나님과 화해가 이루어 졌을 뿐 만 아니라, 앞으로 우리가 덧입게 될 영광을 소망 가운데 바라보며, 오늘의 고난조차도 기쁨으로 견뎌내며, 주님의 성품을 덧입는 삶을 살면서, 오늘도 우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님 안에서 즐거워하는 삶을 살게 된다고 말하고 있습니다.
- Today’s text, chapter 5, explains the benefits of justification as the conclusion of Chapters 3-5 on justification, and at the same time serves as a bridge to start the discussion on sanctification. The justification through faith, leads to the ‘reconciliation’ with God, puts us in a position to enjoy all the grace in Jesus, and gives us the joy in the hope for the glory of God, and even Christians rejoice in sufferings, since the hope arises in the process of persevering in sufferings, being clothed with the Lord’s character. Also, this hope in God never disappoints Christians, which is affirmed by the love of God which is poured out upon us through the Holy Spirit with the great love which is shown when we were still sinners. Therefore, we will endure even sufferings with joy because of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 오늘의 본문에서, 우리의 삶에 적용하기를 원하는 것은 먼저, 하나님의 영광을 입는다는 것이 어떤 의미일지 생각해 보기를 원합니다. 하나님의 영광은 “하나님의 본질적 탁월성의 외적인 나타남과 빛남”을 말합니다. 우리 인간은 비록 무한하고 완전한 하나님의 영광에는 이르지 못하지만, 중보자되신 예수님 안에서 영광스런 하나님의 형상을 회복함으로써, 하나님의 사랑과 공의를 되비추이며, 하나님을 알고 사랑하며 깊은 교제 가운데 살며, 점점 하나님의 영광을 덧입어 가게 되는데, 우리는 마침내 올 새하늘 새땅에서 이러한 영광스러운 몸과 영혼을 가지고 주님의 우주적 통치에 참여하게 될 것입니다. 따라서, Already-not-yet 의 상태로 오늘 여기 각자의 삶 속에서, 하나님의 영광을 맛보고 누리며 또한 세상으로 되비추는 삶을 살아가시기를 소망합니다. 그리고 두번째로는 환난은 인내를 인내는 연단 즉 성품을 성품은 소망을 이룬다고 말씀하고 있는 바, 오늘 우리가 처한 현실에서 그 앞에 있는 기쁨을 위하여 십자가를 참으신, 우리 믿음의 주요 또 온전케 하시는 예수님을 바라보며 (히 12:1-3), 하루 하루 주어진 인내를 이루며, 주님의 성품, 즉 온유와 겸손 (마 11:29) 을 덧입고 (롬 8:29), 성령의 열매 (갈 5:22-23)를 맺으며 살아가는 모두가 되기를 소망합니다.
- Through today’s text, we would like to learn few things. The first is that we would like to think about what it means to receive the glory of God. God’s glory refers to “the outward manifestation and splendor of God’s essential excellence.” Even though we, human beings, cannot attain the infinite and perfect glory of God, we will be transformed into His glory more and more, after being restored with His glorious image in Jesus, and also glorify God, by reflecting God’s love and justice, while knowing Him more, loving Him more and living with Him in the more intimate fellowship and then finally participate in the universal reignment of the Lord, after being resurrected with glorious body and soul in the new heaven and new earth to come. Therefore, in the state of ‘already-not-yet’, even now and here, we may rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Secondly, even we may rejoice in our sufferings, since sufferings produce perseverance, perseverance character and character hope, while looking at Jesus, who endured the cross for the joy that is in front of Him, who is the initiator and perfector of our faith (Hebrews 12:1-3), as we clothe with our Lord’s character – meekness and humility (Mt 11:29), and bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:22-23).
- 그리고 마지막으로 은혜 나누기를 원하는 것은, 오늘 본문에서 즐거워한다 혹은 기뻐한다고 번역된 헬라어 ““카위코메타”(καυχώμεθα)”를 “rejoice”(즐거워하다, 기뻐하다)로 번역하였는데, 실제로 이 단어는 더욱 강한 의미인 “exult”(크게 기뻐하다, 기뻐 날뛰다)라는 뜻을 가지고 있는데, 앞으로 우리가 덧입을 영광을 소망하며, 환난 중에도 이러한 큰 기쁨으로 즐거워할 뿐 만 아니라, 하나님 안에서 큰 기쁨으로 살아갈 수 있기를 소망합니다. 기도하옵기는 이러한 이신칭의가 주는 유익이, 2000년 전에 이 땅에 오셔서 우리의 칭의와 성화와 구원을 완전하게 이루어 놓으신 예수님 안에서, 믿음으로 받아 누리는 값없이 주시는 하나님의 은혜임을 기억하며, 오늘 대강절 세번째 주일에, 주님께서 주시는 참 기쁨과 참 즐거움 (카위코메타) 을 누리시기를 소망할 때에, 사랑하는 KPCM 우리 자녀들과 가족들과 교회에 예수님으로 말미암는 이러한 큰 즐거움이 풍성하게 넘치는 한 주가 되기를 기도합니다.
- Lastly, I want to share one more grace from today’s text. NIV translated the Greek word “kawikometa (καυχώμεθα)” as “boast” but, actually it has meaning of “rejoice (rejoice and be happy),” as ESV translated. In fact, this word has a stronger meaning, “exult” (to rejoice greatly, to jump with joy), so, I hope you may not only greatly rejoice in the hope of the glory of God, while even rejoicing in sufferings, but also you may greatly rejoice in God, here and now. Therefore, today, on the third Sunday of Advent, I hope all of us will enjoy the true joy that the Lord gives us. I pray that our beloved children, families, and church may enjoy a week, overflowing with such great joy through Jesus.
Activity questions and thought behind
Q1 But in order to clothe with the glory of the Lord, sometimes we have to be disciplined and go through sufferings which produce perseverance and character. If you think that you go through any kinds of sufferings, which character do you think our Lord want to train or cultivate in you through those sufferings? I hope you may speculate His will in your sufferings and share your thought with your friends or family. 그런데, 그렇게 하나님의 영광을 덧입기 위해서는, 때때로 어려움을 통하여, 우리가 인내하고 연단받는 가운데 우리의 성품도 주님의 성품을 덧입어야 한다고 말씀하고 있습니다. 만약 오늘 여러분들이 겪는 어려움이 있다면, 하나님께서 그 어려움을 통하여 어떤 성품을 단련하고 훈련하시기를 원하실지 생각해 보시고 서로 그 은혜를 나눌 수 있으면 좋겠습니다.
(이 질문을 통하여, 우리의 머리카락 하나 까지도 세신 우리 아버지 하나님께서 우리에게 일어나도록 허락하신 고난을 통해서, 우리가 어떻게 인내하고 어떤 성품을 덧입기를 원하시는지 생각해 보고, 또 기쁠 때도 슬플 때도, 행복할 때도 괴로울 때도 언제나 우리와 함께 하시는 하나님을 발견하고 또 그 안에서 뜻을 찾고 구하는 우리 자녀들이 되기를 소망합니다. 다양한 생각과 의견과 감정과 경험을 표현할 때 공감해 주시면서, 때때로 생각의 이유도 물어 보시면서 아이들과 적극적 경청과 공감의 대화를 나누실 수 있으시기를 소망합니다.)
(Through this question, I hope we may rejoice even in our sufferings, which God, our Father, who counted even our hair, allowed us to rise, thinking about how we endure and what character he wants us to wear, and also meditating on His presence at good or bad. Specially I hope our children to become one who always find God who is with us, and seek even in times of distress. I hope that you will be able to actively listen and have a conversation of empathy.)
Q2 Today’s Bible verses teach us that since we are justified and reconciled with God the Father through faith in Jesus, we may rejoice in the hope of the glory of God, even rejoicing in sufferings, which work together for good, and also rejoice in God and enjoy Him. I wonder how it looks like to rejoice in God in your daily life and how to expose joy in you to your family and friends? 오늘 본문은 예수님을 우리 구주로 믿는 믿음을 통하여, 우리는 의롭다 칭함을 받았고, 그로 말미암아 하나님과 화해를 누리며, 앞으로 우리가 덧입을 하나님의 영광을 소망하며 즐거워 할 뿐 만 아니라, 어떤 환난과 고난 속에서도 합력하여 선을 이루실 하나님 안에서 기쁨으로 즐거워하며 하나님을 누리는 삶을 살게 된다고 말하고 있습니다. 여러분들의 일상의 삶 속에서 어떻게 하나님 안에서 즐거워하고, 또 주변의 가족들과 친구들에게 그 기쁨을 나타낼 수 있을지 서로의 생각을 나눌 수 있으면 좋겠습니다.
(이 질문을 통하여, 어떤 모습이 고난과 환난 가운데에서도 하나님 안에서 기뻐하는 삶인지 구체적으로 그러한 삶의 모습을 일상에서 찾아보고 또 그 기쁨을 가족과 친구들과 나눌 수 있을지 생각해 보는 시간이 되기를 소망합니다. 각자가 짊어진 오늘의 고난 속에서, 주님과 더불어 어떤 자세와 어떤 믿음으로 모습으로 주님과 함께 동행할지 생각해 보고 묵상해 보는 시간이 되었으면 좋겠습니다. 다양한 생각과 의견과 감정과 경험을 표현할 때 공감해 주시면서, 때때로 생각의 이유도 물어 보시면서 아이들과 적극적 경청과 공감의 대화를 나누실 수 있으시기를 소망합니다.)
(Through this question, I hope our children can think about how the life of rejoicing in God even in sufferings, looks like in our daily life to share them with family and friends. Also, I hope this will be a time to meditate on what attitudes and faith we will walk with the Lord even in the midst of sufferings. I hope that you will be able to share a conversation of positive listening and empathy with your children by empathizing with them when expressing various thoughts, opinions, feelings and experiences, and sometimes asking the reason for your thoughts.)
Q3 While we are going through the third week of Advent, I hope you may enjoy the joy our Lord gives us and enjoy Him in whom the ultimate joy exists. 오늘은 대강절 셋째주를 보내면서, 주님께서 주시는 참 기쁨안에서 그 기쁨 뿐 만 아니라 주님을 누리는 복된 한 주가 되시기를 소망합니다.
