영과 진리로 예배하는 예배자를 찾으시는 하나님 아버지께서, 우리의 예배를 통해 올려 드리는 모든 감사와 찬양과 영광을 기쁘게 받으실 줄 믿습니다.

We believe that Heavenly Father, who is looking for worshipers who worship with spirit and truth, will gladly receive all the thanks, praise, and glory that we offer through our worship.

오늘은 2021년 네번째 주일입니다. 지난 주에는, 고후 4:16-5:10 말씀을 통하여, 비록 우리의 겉사람은 늙어가지만, 우리의 속사람은 날로 새로와지는 성화의 삶은 결국 잠시받는 환란을 통하여 영원한 영광에 이르게 할 뿐 만 아니라, 이러한 과정에서 우리는 믿음으로 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 삶을 통하여, 결국 하늘 나라의 상급도 받을 수 있다고 배웠습니다. 이번 주에는 로마서 3장 말씀을 통하여, 그렇게 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 삶의 동인은 하나님의 값없이 주시는 은혜이며, 그 삶은 항상 하나님을 우리 삶의 한가운데로 초대하여 함께 하는 것임을 배워보기를 소망합니다.

Today is the fourth Sunday in 2021. Last week, we learned about the life to receive the rewards, while by living the life to please God, our inner being is renewed through momentary affliction finally to be glorified, even though our outward being grows through 2 Corinthians 4:16-5:10. This week, through Romans 3, I hope we will learn that God’s free grace makes us to strive to live to please God and also being with God in our daily life is the life to please God.

• 로마서의 1-2장에 의하면, 하나님께서는 그가 만드신 만물을 통해서 그의 영원하신 능력과 신성을 보여 주심(1:20)으로, 하나님께서 계신 것(1:19)을 모든 사람들이 알게 해 주셨으나, 죄로 말미암아 자기 스스로 높아지려는 교만에 사로잡힌 인간들은 창조주요 주권주요 심판주이신 하나님께 예배하지도 또 감사하지도 않음(1:21)으로 말미암아 하나님의 진노 아래 있게 되었다(1:18)고 말씀하고 있습니다. 또한 인간은 율법이 있는 자나 없는 자 (그 양심이 율법이 됨, 2:14-15)나 누구를 막론하고 모두 선(율법을 행함)을 행해야 (2:9-10) 하지만, 인간은 죄로 인하여 타락하게 됨으로, 율법의 정신을 제대로 이해하지도 못할 뿐 더러 또한 율법을 지킬 능력도 없는 존재가 되었기에, 성경은 “율법의 행위로는 의롭다 하심을 얻을 사람이 한사람도 없다 (3:20)”, 즉 “의인은 없나니 하나도 없으며 깨닫는 자도 없고 하나님을 찾는 자도 없고 다 치우쳐 함께 무익하게 되고 선을 행하는 자는 없나니 하나도 없다 (3:10-12)”라고 말하고 있습니다.
• According to Romans chapters 1-2, it is said that even though God showed His eternal power and divinity through all things He made (1:20), and God’s existence is known to every one (1:19), but, human beings, who are captivated by pride to exalt themselves after the fall, are under the wrath of God (1:18) because of neither worshiping nor giving thanks to God, the Creator, Sovereign Lord, and Judge (1:21). In addition to this, even though human beings have to do good (live in God’s pleasing will, keeping the law), whether they have the law or not (his conscience becomes the law, 2:14-15), but because human beings are corrupted by the sin so that they do not understand the spirit of the law properly, nor do they have the ability to keep the law, the Bible clearly says that “No one can be justified by the act of the law (3:20),” that is, “There is no righteous man, no one understanding, no one seeking God, all aside, and no one doing good? There is not one of you (3:10-12).”

• 따라서, 하나님께서는 율법을 지켜 의롭게 되는 길과는 다른 의 (3:21)의 길을 나타내 주셨는데, 곧 그리스도 예수를 믿는 믿음으로 얻는 하나님의 의 (3:22)입니다. 이 하나님의 의는 예수님께서 십자가 사역을 통하여 이루신 구속(redemption)의 공로를 덧입어 하나님의 은혜로 값없이 의롭다 하심을 얻는데 (3:24), 믿음을 통하여 얻을 수 있다고 말씀하고 합니다. 결국 인간이 선행을 통하여 이룰 수 없는 의(義)를 십자가 대속 죽음을 통하여, 그 죄값을 완전히 치르시고 또 부활하심으로 말미암아 우리를 의에 이르게 하신 것 (4:25)을 믿음으로 얻게 되는 의를 말하는 것입니다. 이것은 하나님의 사랑으로 독생자 예수를 십자가에 내어주셔서 대속하게 하심으로 하나님의 공의를 만족 (3:25-26)시키시고, 믿는 자에게 베푸시는 하나님의 의를 말씀하고 있는 것입니다. 그런 의미에서 십자가는 하나님의 속성인 하나님의 공의와 하나님의 사랑이 가장 극명하게 드러난 사건이며, 또한 하나님께 영광(요 12:28)이 되는 사건이 되는 것입니다.
• Therefore, God showed different way of righteousness (3:21), which is different from the way to be justified by keeping the law, that is, God’s righteousness (3:22), obtained through faith in Christ Jesus. This righteousness, obtained through faith, is the free grace of God, through the redemption that Jesus accomplished in the cross (3:24). In other words, the righteousness that human beings cannot achieve through good deeds, can be obtained through faith that Jesus completely paid the penalty of sins and justified us through his resurrection (4:25). This is the God’s righteousness that was imparted to the believers, after satisfying God’s justice (3:25-26) through His love to sacrifice His only Son Jesus in the cross to make atonement. In this sense, the cross is the event in which the attributes of God, justice and love, were most clearly revealed so that His glory was manifested (John 12:28).

• 오늘 본문 말씀을 통해서 몇가지 은혜를 나누기 원하는 데, 먼저 인간의 실존, 즉 인간의 비참함에 대한 고찰입니다. 즉 성경은 분명히 의인은 없나니 하나도 없다고 선언하고 있습니다. 이것을 신학적인 용어로는 전적 부패 (Total Depravity)라고 말하는데, 이 뜻은 모든 인간이 무슨 악행만을 일삼는 악의 화신 (化身) 이나 심지어 마귀와 다를 바 없는 절대적 부패 (Absolute Depravity) 의 존재라는 뜻이 아니라, 인간은 원죄로 말미암아 인간의 전 영역이 영향을 받아 부패하여, 지성은 영적 진리에 관하여 어두워졌고, 마음은 부패 되었으며, 그들의 의지는 약해져 인간 스스로는 구원에 이를 수 없는 전적으로 무능 (Total Inability) 한상태라는 말입니다. 그래서, 욥 15:14-16 에서는 “사람이 어찌 깨끗하겠느냐 여인에게서 난 자가 어찌 의롭겠느냐 하나님은 거룩한 자들을 믿지 아니하시나니 하늘이라도 그가 보시기에 부정하거든 하물며 악을 저지르기를 물 마심 같이 하는 가증하고 부패한 사람을 용납하시겠느냐” 고 했고, 전 7:20 에서는 “선을 행하고 전혀 죄를 범하지 아니하는 의인은 세상에 없기 때문이로다”라고 말씀한 것입니다. 비록 이것이 우리의 슬픈 현실이자 인간의 현주소이기도 하지만, 오히려 어떤 의미에서는 이 전적 부패의 인간 실존은 우리에게 은혜의 시발점이 될 수 있습니다. 왜냐하면 자기 스스로를 구원할 수 없게 된 인간은 자기의 비참한 현실을 깨닫고 하나님께서 열어 놓으신 은혜의 길로 나와 예수를 구주로 고백하며 믿음으로 말미암아 하나님의 의를 덧입을 수 있기 때문입니다. 우리 모두가 그런 우리의 비참함에 대한 자각, 즉 하나님의 뜻으로 말미암은 근심을 통하여 회개에 이르게 되는 은혜가 있기를 소망합니다. 그리고 이렇게 믿음을 통하여 은혜로 말미암아 의롭다 함을 얻은 우리는 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 삶으로 나가게 되는데, 우리 스스로 죄에서 구원할 수 없는 우리 인간에게 은혜로 말미암은 하나님의 의의 길을 여시고 자, 죄를 진 자는 반드시 그 값을 치러야 하는 하나님의 정의를 실현시키시기 위하여, 독생하신 하나님의 아들 예수 그리스도를 이 땅에 육신의 모양으로 보내시고, 그 육신에 죄를 정하사 십자가에 못박아 돌아 가시게 하심으로 (롬 8:3), 예수 그리스도를 믿는 모든 자를 의롭다 하시는 (3:24) 하나님의 사랑과 은혜를 깨닫고 감사의 삶으로 인도함 받기 때문입니다. 이런 의미에서 성화의 삶은 칭의의 열매가 되는 것입니다. 이렇게 하나님의 은혜를 깨달은 사람이 의인이요 또한 그 은혜를 깨달은 사람만이 입어 하나님을 찾고 하나님의 뜻을 구하며, 하나님을 알고 사랑하며, 하나님과 함께 동행하며 하나님의 뜻대로 선을 행함으로, 하나님께 영광을 돌리는 삶을 살게 되는 것입니다.
• We would like to receive some graces through today’s text as follows. First, we would like to know who we are, that is, human misery as the Bible clearly says that there is no righteous man. Theologically this is the doctrine of Total Depravity. It does not mean that all human beings are absolutely evil, i.e., Absolute Depravity, so that they cannot do any good as they are no different from the devil. Rather, it means that because of original sin, humans have been corrupted all areas of humanity, i.e., their intellect has been darkened with respect to spiritual truth, their heart have become corrupted, their will is weakened, so that humans themselves are fallen into the state of total inability that they cannot save themselves, as Job 15:14-16 says, “What is man, that can be pure? Or he who was born of a woman that can be righteous? Behold, God puts no trust in the holy ones, and the heavens are not pure in his sight; how much less one who is abominable and corrupt, a man who drinks injustice like water!” and also Ecclesiastes 7:20 says, “because there is no righteous man in the world who does good and does not sin at all.” Even though this is our sad reality and existence, this can be the beginning of grace for us, since God opened the path of grace, because humans are unable to save themselves so that after they realize their miserable reality, they come to God, confess Jesus as Savior, and receive God’s righteousness through faith. I hope that all of us will have this grace of God, i.e., the awareness of their misery and the grace to lead into the repentance. And then we, who have been justified through faith by grace, will decide to live the life to pleases God, after recognizing the grace of God which leads us into the life of gratitude that God sent His only begotten Son into the world in the likeness of flesh, condemned sin in the flesh for sin and crucified Him (Rom 8:3), to save the elect who cannot save by themselves from sin. In this sense, the life of sanctification is called the fruit of justification. Those who have realized this grace of God can become the righteous, since only those who have realized their total depravity and the grace of God, seek God, know and love God, walk with God to do good and glorify God.

• 그렇게 우리는 자기가 받은 은혜의 크기 만큼 하나님의 기쁘신 뜻대로 살 수 있는데, 그 은혜의 크기는 내가 내 죄 혹은 나의 전적 부패와 전적 무능함의 크기를 얼마나 크게 느끼느냐에 비례하는 바, 오늘 우리 스스로에게 “나는 얼마나 큰 은혜를 받았는가?” “나는 나의 부패와 무능을 얼마나 크게 느끼고 있는가?” 자문해 보며, 자기는 점점 작아지고 하나님은 점점 크게 느껴지는 은혜가 우리 KPCM 자녀들과 가족들과 교회에 넘쳐 나기를 기도합니다.
• Thus, we can live according to God’s pleasing will as much as the amount of grace we have received, which is proportional also to how big we recognize our sin is or our total corruption and total incompetence is. So I hope you may ask and meditate “How much grace have I received?” or “How much do I feel about my corruption and incompetence?” during this week, so that you may be soaked in the grace to recognize how small we are and how big our God is and this grace may be abundant to our children, families and church.

 

Activity questions and thought behind

Q1 Before we decide how to act, even though we try to do our best to think about it, but we always realize that we cannot act perfectly so that we recognize our mistakes or misunderstandings or misconducts later. If you have similar experience, I hope you could share those experiences with your friends. (For example, when your friend did something to you, we felt like heartbroken, before you did not understand the behind story or thought of your friend so that you became angry to your friend. But, after hearing the reason why your friend acted like that way or the behind story of your friend’s act, you felt very sorry for being angry to them and said sorry to them, etc..) 우리가 어떤 행동을 하기 전에 여러가지로 생각을 하지만 그것이 완벽할 수 없다는 것을 깨달을 때가 많습니다. 그래서 늘 행동을 뒤 돌아보면, 잘못된 점들을 발결할 때가 있는데, 여러분들도 비슷한 경험이 있다면 나누어 주시면 좋겠습니다. (예를 들어, 친구가 어떤 행동을 했을 때, 그 친구가 그렇게 행동한 이유나 생각을 다 이해하지 못하고 혼자 속상해서 친구에게 벌컥 화를 내었는데, 뒤에 친구가 그렇게 행동한 이유나 사정 이야기를 듣고 보면 친구가 이해가 되고 또 자신이 친구에게 화를 낸 것이 미안해서 사과한 경우 등등)

(이 질문을 통하여, 우리 자녀들이 우리가 최선을 다해서, 어떤 행동을 하기 전에 여러가지 상황도 알아보고 생각도 해 본 후, 행동을 하지만, 그것이 완벽할 수는 없다는 사실을 깨닫기를 원합니다. 그런 과정 속에서 우리가 성장하기는 하지만, 결코 하나님처럼 완벽할 수는 없다는 사실을 우리는 기억하고 언제나 겸손할 수 있기를 소망합니다. 다양한 생각과 의견과 감정과 경험을 표현할 때 공감해 주시면서, 때때로 생각의 이유도 물어 보시면서 아이들과 적극적 경청과 공감의 대화를 나누실 수 있으시기를 소망합니다.)

(Through this question, I hope that our children can realize that even though human beings do their best to think about all possible scenario and find the best plan before we act, we cannot be perfect. Even though we can grow through this process, we remember that we can never be as perfect as God and hope to be humble always. I hope that you will be able to enjoy the conversation of positive listening and empathy with your children by empathizing them when expressing various thoughts, opinions, feelings and experiences, and sometimes by asking the reason for their thoughts.)

(Through this question, I hope our children can understand the meaning of total depravity so that they can rely more onto God, after recognizing our existence to receive the help of God and that even our salvation is possible only through the faith in Jesus whom God sent for our salvation.
