In the midst of the crisis, I pray that God may keep you safe and healthy in His grace and love and you may witness His presence in your life.
Today we would like to meditate on Mark 11:12-18 at Monday in the Passion week.
Today’s text deals with the parables of a fig tree with no fruits and Jesus’ cleansing of the temple and two parables give the same message to us.
Tip) The fig tree provides two kinds of figs; the early figs or the late figs. The early figs ripen in the season of Pass-over before the leaves and the late figs ripen in the autumn after the leaves. The early figs, called taqsh, were not perfect for eating, but in the first century when there were no enough foods, the poor used to eat them, so that Jesus was looking for those early figs.
The fig tree which has no fruits even in leaf, is resembled with the Israelites who do not have any fruits even with abundant religious liturgy so that Jesus cleansed His temple which has been pursuing worldly profits instead being a house of prayer for all nations, i.e., a house to flow out the blessings to the world.
Therefore I hope you may meditate on what the challenge is to the contemporary church which pursue their worldly profit and comfort, instead of being a house of prayer for all the nations, i.e., a house to flow out His blessings to the world.
Questions) If we are His temple where the Holy Spirit dwells, what kind of fruits do we have to ripe? If any, what do you have to clean in/from you?

어려운 상황 속에서도 하나님의 은혜와 사랑 안에서 평강과 건강으로 지켜 주심을 믿으며 주님께서 함께 하심을 더욱 채감하고 고백하는 귀한 시간이 되시기를 기도합니다.
오늘 고난주간 월요일 묵상하실 말씀은 마가복음 11:12-18 말씀입니다.
본문에서는 열매를 맺지 못한 무화과 나무 이야기와 예수님의 성전 정결 사건을 기록하고 있습니다. 언뜻 서로 다른 이야기 같지만 실은 같은 이야기를 하고 있습니다.
Tip) 무화가 나무는 일반적으로 두번 열매를 수확하는데, 첫 열매는 잎사귀가 무성하기 전, 즉, 유월절 전후에 나오는데, 이 첫 열매는 비록 먹기에 부적합하였지만, 먹을 것이 부족했던 당시에는 종종 먹기도 하였는데, 예수님께서는 잎사귀가 무성한 것을 보시고 이 첫 열매 (타크시라고도 불림)를 찾으신 것이다. 두번째 열매는 5~6월경에 열려 가을에 수확하는데 우리가 주로 알고 먹는 무화과이다.
즉, 잎사귀만 무성하고 열매가 없는 무화과 나무는 실은 종교적 의식은 풍성하지만, 열매를 맺지 못하는 이스라엘 백성들과 닮아 있으며, 특히 성전이 만민을 위해서 기도하는 집, 만민에게 복을 전하는 곳이 아니라 상인들과 제사장들의 이익을 위해 쓰이고 있는 것을 보신 예수님께서는 성전을 정화하신 것이었던 것입니다.
따라서, 오늘의 본문이 만민을 위해 기도하는 집, 만민에게 복을 전하는 곳이 아니라, 자신의 안위와 이익에 집중하고 있는 오늘날의 많은 교회에 주는 도전을 깊이 묵상해 보아야 할 것입니다.
질문) 우리가 성령님께서 거하시는 성전이라면, 우리가 어떤 열매를 맺어야 할까요? 그리고 우리 내부에 우리가 깨끗하게 해야 하는 것이 무엇일까요?
