Greetings to His Saints of KPCM!
I pray that His endless grace be with you all in a day of early spring of blooming buds with bright sunshine after heavy rains at yesterday night.
Today we would like to meditate on John 13:1-17, 31b-35.
In the text, Jesus gave his disciples new commandment to love one another, after washing their feet, before His ministry at the cross. He taught them that to love one another is to serve one another as to wash feet one another with humble and lowly mind, as He loved His people even to the point to die in the cross and the life of disciple should be the life of serving others.
Tip) In the Orient the wearing of open sandals on dusty roads made it necessary to wash the feet frequently; therefore a host would customarily provide water for his guests upon their arrival, so that they might wash their feet (cf. Gen. 18:4; 19:2; 24:32; 43:24; Jgs. 19:21). Sometimes a servant performed this service for the guests (1 S. 25:41). It was considered the most menial task a servant could perform (cf. Mk. 1:7 parallel passage)
While meditating on this text, we would like to think about what it means to love one another, what kind of attitude we should have, how we as His church have to serve not just only us but also the world.
Question) In order to serve in humble and lowly mind, our Lord taught that we have to abide in Him (John 15:4) and also in His love (John 15:9), why do you think He said that?

어제 밤 내린 비가 무색하게 날은 화창하고 이곳 저곳에 꽃망울이 맺히기 시작하는 봄날 (?)을 맞아, 주님의 이름으로 문안드리며, 하나님의 크신 은혜가 오늘도 여러분 모두에게 함께 하시기를 기도합니다.
오늘 묵상하실 말씀은 요한복음 13:1-17, 31b-35 입니다.
오늘 본문에는 예수님께서 십자가 사역을 지시기 전 마지막으로 제자들에게 제자들의 발을 씻기시며, 서로 사랑하라는 새 계명을 주신 일이 기록되어 있습니다. 너희가 서로 사랑하라는 새 계명을 주시면서, 그 사랑의 삶은 결국 서로의 발을 씻어 주는 섬김의 삶이며, 세상에 있는 자기 사람들을 사랑하시되 자기의 목숨을 내어 주기 까지 … 끝까지… 사랑하신 주님의 본을 따라 사는 삶이라고 말씀하셨고, 그리고 그 사랑의 삶, 섬김의 삶은 제자도의 본질이라고 가르쳐 주셨습니다.
Tip) 흙탕길이 많은 길을 슬리퍼같은 신발을 신고 다니던 유대 지방에서는 손님이 방문하면 주인은 먼저 손님이 발을 씻을 수 있도록 물을 준비해 주는 것이 예절이었고, 형편에 따라 이 일은 집안의 하인들이 맡아 하였는데, 이일은 하인들이 하는 가장 천한 일이었습니다. 따라서, 예수님께서는 서로에게 겸손히 낮은 자세로 섬기는 본을 보여 주신 것이었습니다.
오늘의 말씀을 묵상하면서, 예수님께서 마지막 우리에게 부탁하신 서로 사랑하라는 새 계명이 우리에게 어떤 마음 가짐을 가져야 하는지 묵상해 보는 시간이 되기를 원합니다. 우리 교회가 이런 자세로 세상을 섬기고 있는지…
질문) 우리가 서로 사랑하되 끝까지 낮은 마음으로 섬기기 위해서, 주님은 또 주님 안에 거하라 (요 15:4)고 하셨는데 그것은 또한 주님 사랑 안에 거하는 것(요15:9)이라 말씀하셨습니다. 오늘 하루 함께 그 의미에 대해서 묵상해 보는 시간이 되기를 원합니다. 왜 주님께서 주님 사랑 안에 거하라고 하셨는지?
